    Question 16: What suggestions would you make for future online courses?
     

    • I think that most students would benefit from at least 3 in class meetings.  Teachers need to help the students make connections because a lot is learned through these student to student connections.

    • USE THE MESSAGE BOARD TO ANSWER QUESTIONS THAT EVERYONE HAS RATHER THAN GIVING THE SAME ANNOYINGLY MONOTONOUS MESSAGE OVER AND OVER.  Charge a reasonable price for the manual.  It isn't worth $50

    • Get it to ease up on the grading. The touchiness of the program.  Make it more user friendly. I HATE taking my hands off the keyboard. I am a "hotkey" kind of person  so to be marked off or corrected for hitting ENTER is annoying  especially when I wasn't given explicit instructions to hit the OK key with the mouse.

    • realize that if you are going to have this many people taking this course online you need more that two or three people responding back to the students because we always have questions
    • Ensure "terms" on consistant throughout the website  syllabus  and books. For example "quiz" versus "exam"  etc.  I feel it would help ease confusion about what is due when and where links can be found. Also  ensure that both bookstores are seling the same books for this class. Another suggestion: perhaps post a hierachy for solving problems in the syllabus to prevent people from "venting" on the bulletin board.  Also  on the syllabus

    • That the instructors and their assistants pay more attention to their private mail and the bulletin board.  For those of us with full time careers  it's our only way of communicating!

    • More help available.  I know that this was the first semester the CISM 3330 was offered on line so some mistakes are understandable  but there are a lot of problems that need to be corrected w/ the chapter exercises and better explanation of how to post certain modules.

    • If most assignments are due on a certain day of the week  all assignments should be due on that day of the week.  Otherwise  it's confusing and easy to forget certain assignments.

    • Well  if there was a way that we could see our instructors face  and he could see ours  and if he could see what we were doing so if there was a question asked  we would be face to face. I say that because sometimes  you need to see your instructor face to face to get a question answered. That is the only thing that I would suggest for future courses.

    • Try to get the lists of students for each class entered a little earlier  so we can access Web CT before the first class meeting.  I've had difficulties several times now because I couldn't access Web CT to see info that professor intended for us to have before that first meeting.

    • Meet in person for the first three classes so everyone understands expectations of the class. We did not meet at all until way into the class and this made it very confusing!
    • Future online courses should be designed so that group work is not involved.  Also assignments need to be given that actually requires some discussion of a topic when meeting online with the group
    • Make sure the syllabus and instructions for course requirements be very clear and give examples. Some class meetings are very helpful to know if I am staying on target with projects and to gain feedback
