- What suggestions would you make for future on-line
courses?
- don't force students to take online courses and make
sure students are aware that certain courses are taught mostly (up to
50%) online.
- No group work for online work.
- Please offer more of them!
- My professor held a review session before each test.
I would recommend this so that the students do have some interaction
with their professor and get a better feel of how the tests are going to
be.
- Test questions from the text publisher are weak. It is much better to craft intelligent
test questions based on real life examples, not generic T/F garbage.
- More instruction from the instructor. It would also be nice if the
instructor answered emails & postings with questions about the
class.
- I would suggest letting students --if they must come
to campus for an exam -schdule it to their
convenience. I would also suggest letting students take a note card or
something with formulas. Most other courses allow use of formulas for
exams
- Most online classes are wonderful, this class was an
exception.
- Make it to where we can send ourselves reminder
e-mails when we have things coming up! Also make the system strong so
people don't get kicked out.
- A better communication with students as to the
specific workings of the assignment submission tool and exactly what the
instructor is looking for in an essay would be helpful.
- Make sure the professor is actually teaching the
material to the online classes instead of teaching to his/her in class
lectures only and then assigning online students chapters to read.
- Give dates when tests/quizzes/assignments will be
opened
- Stick to the material and keep in mind students have
more going on then just their class
- Have due dates for assignments set to Saturdays or
Sundays so that people working all week will have time to complete them
without staying up late every night each week.
- Allow the quiz to be retaken as much as possible to
achieve the grade needed. I have learned so much from other professors
that have done this in the past. Focus on the most pertinent information
and not such a wide array of material that requires extensive reading,
power points, terms, quizzes, papers and exams.
- This was not a completely online course; therefore,
perhaps a few more class meetings would be beneficial. However, a few
more announcements as reminders of work load would be helpful.
- I have no suggestions at this time.
- I would suggest having more class meetings throughout
the entire semester rather than just the few at the beginning. I think
maybe once a month, an hour or so meeting with the class and the
professor would be successful because everyone could talk as a group
about struggles or problems, or solutions to problems that they're
having in the class.
- Her class was well organized. I don't know what to
suggest.
- overall it was successful
- more student teacher involvement such as online chats
- Make the programs compatible with Mac computers.
- I've taken several online courses, and all of the
teachers but….seem to still be trying to grasp the proper manner of
teaching an online class. I am never confused as to what's due for her
online classes and in almost every case, the things she posts and assign
are fluent and accesible. Other professors
should see her set up and use it as a model. It's the best layout for an
online class that I've seen at UWG.
- Have more in class meetings towards the end of the
semester.
- Textbooks should be less expensive, or online.
- Better overall layout of online tools.
- Teachers to be understand that the course is online.
Sometimes websites, programs have issues and the instructor should be
flexible or willing to work with the student if he/she is significantly
trying.
- To still lectures and chat sessions at a more convient time for all te
students not just a few.
- Limit the face to face meetings in online courses.
- Final schema should be a group project. Better final
projects and greater learning would be acheived.
- More assignments like using GALILEO for finding,
reading and reviewing an article that pertains to a topic in the
chapter(s).
- Make each online course have a standard structure,
standard names for sections of the course, so it is easy to navigate.
- Clearly state in the course description that meeting
times other than the first and last week are required.
- Require the group to be more accountable for smaller
portions of group presentation along the way to monitor that all group
members are equally contributing to online assignments.
- fewer assignments which are more meaningful; allow
time inbetween assignments to do quality work
- It is important for the instructor to be
well-organized, available to the students as questions arise, and to
provide clear feedback. All of
these attributes were present in this on-line course.
- The chat rooms are very easy and accessible. I would like to make saving the chats
to return to at a later time easier.
- Buy the book and don't depend on others
- make more hours for face to face help.
- keep ahead of your assignments.
- Have the professor in the class room each assigned
day (or at least once a week) for the students who wish to attend a
physical class setting, and who have questions which might otherwise not
be answered.
- Students should be advised: Learning online is an
ability learned from experience. Students should not necessarily be
discouraged from taking courses this way, but simply forewarned about
the potential stress and self deprecation of one's learning abilities
which may result.
- Assignments should be due at 12am and not at 8pm
- I would like to see the cost of taking an on-line
course become a little cheaper.
- I can't think of any improvements that could be made.
- good job at everything done.
- -The addition of
email, text, course den, and even social network reminders -Allowing some sort of make-up
policy -]
- Utilize the abilities of the internet more.
- Have teacher check emails more often and grade in a
timely matter. Do not put time limits on assignments its
an online class, you should be able to do it when you can.
- Nothing, this was wonderful!
- more instruction for assignments.
- Having a make up day and
certain time period to take missed quizzes
- Only use one book for this class
- that it is setup this this
course
- Maybe more interaction amongst the students, or
between the students and the teacher. That way it removes the degree of
separation, while still maintaining the at-home benefit.
- Only take them if absolutely necessary.
- give a little longer time on the quizzes so i dont feel so rushed
- Make the cost for on-line classes more clear.
- more available office hours
- Maybe have the homework be more understandable
because I found some difficulty understanding what the homework assignment's instructions and what the text book
instructed to do. Some of the assignments were just difficult to
understand on how to complete them.
- I think that there should be more computer related
activities and less book work.
- THE ONLY SUGGESTION I WOULD MAKE IS TO INCREASE THE
AMOUNT OF TIME GIVEN TO TAKE QUIZZES.
- Make the quizzes just a little bit more time.
- Professors could be more attentive and explicitly
tell people what they expect from them, rather than making them research
information regarding their class.
- be able to open up your work in case of internet
falling because i had to start over or if was
in a test got bad grade.
- Keep up the good work, it's a great course!
- Nothing, this was a great class!
- Add video lessons and maybe even a live webcam
lecture aspect to the class.
- Just more time for quizzes maybe 20 minutes
- Maybe to give a little more time on quizzes and test
but other than that, everything was fine.
- Make the course more accessible for all computers
programs. It should not only be available through vista.
- Be organized and always look up your material.
- I would like mores access
to instructor or his assistant even if it is through email. Presently,
he only answers questions related to the syllubus.
- Have assignments due 11:59pm not am, when students
are usually in class.
- Answered in above question.
- longer time between tests
- Explicate thoroughly the financial aspect to
students. However, it becomes irrelevant if you are required to take a
course that charges extra like this, which is a little bit ridiculous.
If a course is required & only offered online, it shouldn't cost
more. I would have opted to take this class on campus for cheaper if I
had such an option.
- Let them all be like this one, where you can do the
work as you please as long as it is by the deadline. No manditory sign ins or class participation groups.
They don't fit everyone's schedule.
- Lower the price of books.
- Have examples for PC and Mac
- I would like to take more on-line classes in the
future
- Make sure you take out the additional fee prior to
the class starting instead of telling the students weeks into the course
and having them go out of their way to pay the fee.
- Make sure the assignments are very clear
- a clearer understanding of software
- I think some classes
are better suited for online, where other classes should be held on
campus face-to-face. For this
class, online was appropriate because we were completing our portfolios
based on what we had learned through the program.
- NO suggestions- I enjoy both online and face-to-face
courses
- It would help to have some upper level classes from
each area online for each semester, and not just summer.
- Less jumping around to find materials, more of a gap
for students to take the online quizzes.
- Get rid of wimba! I feel
like am talking in the shower.
- Coursework should pertain 100% to the class. This course did not do that. We read/listened to powerpoints and then wrote a short explanation which
was posted on a discussion board.
It was all busywork and unnecessary.
- More interaction between the instructor and students
in regards to assignments.
- Limited or no face to face meetings.
- Make sure and give specific directions on where to
find things.
- I have none at this time.
- I would rather take quizes
than do the discussions.
- I like the classroom learning environment, but I also
don't like driving every night to go to class. There are negative and
positive aspects of on-line learning. For someone like me, who enjoys
the classroom, I would like some videos or presentations by the
instructor to enhance the learning experience of an online class.
- more interaction time. quicker resonses
- WebCT/CourseDen needs some immprovements. When we had to talk to group members
on the discussion board, it was really confusing to have to dig through
messages to see who wrote what. It should be more like a forum style.
- For this teacher, she needs to be more organized
- Offer more of the class offerings as online, even
partially online.
- having a chance to talk to the professor when one has
a question.
- Make sure students know they will be participating in
online class beacuse I signed up for a class
that was supposed to be in in class but the
instructor was changed at the last minute.
- When we have in class conversations, they need to be
a little more interesting.
- no suggestions for this course
- fixing the system so you can not
get kicked off
- None really the course was conducted in an
understandable way
- Nothing everything was good.
- it should be more participatory
- ONLINE CLASSES ARE FANTASTIC
- nothing …course is this best online course I have
ever had.
- None, I think it worked out really well.
- Nothing for this course in particular.
- work on the programming and maintenance of courseden
- I think some online classes should take in
consideration that people are taking an online course to save time and
money and if its only a 2 credit class I think
the work should be cut down especially if the student already has 3
classes on campus already.
- i dont
know what suggestions i would make especially
for this course because i like everything
about it. But for others, like another class i
took had way too many requirements, such as attending a certain amount
of things on campus, i took an online course
because i did not feel i
would have enough time to do another campus class. so a few requirements
for on campus things is fine but like 4 or more to me is too many.
- I would suggest shorter assignments.
- One things is for the teacher to be more accessible,
and quicker about putting up grades.
- none its good the way it is
- Have one face to face meeting first.
- Hopefully have teachers email you on MyUWG and know information about tests and such
before the week of the test.
- Mabye a better calander than the one on CourseDen, or more
reminders of work that is due.
- more time on the tests. I always feel rushed.
- a few set class dates just to check in, ask
questions, meet the teacher and other students to study with.
- In the online courses I have taken, help with print
offs and online help is great.
- If teachers could assist students by just answering
their e-mails concerning their doubts and concerns.
- There needs to be more than one instructor assigned
to an on-line course to efficiently handle feedback and grading. If this is not an option, on-line
courses need to be given a low cap on students. If the online course exceeds the cap,
the course needs to be divided.
More technology teachers need to be hired to make the classes
more intimate and less intimidating.
- This course went really smoothly. Online courses in
general however, are mostly very difficult if the instructor is not easy
to contact, or if the work load is unreasonable.
- Even though this is an online class there needs to be
an option for students to come on campus once or twice a month for
assistance. The office hours were not valid for me so they were not helpful.
- The instructor should respond to emails in a timely
manner.
- To be helpful to the students and check emails often
- This teacher needs to be more organized, maybe not
have so many assignments, respond to our emails within a timely manner
(not a month later). Give
feedback on assignments and grade assignments in a timely manner (not
all assignments graded at the very END of our semester!)
- Make sure the students are more update with their
grades, especially if there is a lot of work assigned.
- Since online courses do not meet face to face I would
suggest eliminating group work or graded group discussions.
- fewer more focused assignments
- Perhaps an immediate help line if you experience
technical difficulties? I'm not sure if that is possible or if that
would even help because students need to be able to work with the
technology themselves, but that was the major drawback I experienced.
- I am not a fan of on-line learning.
- Make the initial posting date sooner in the week.
- Opening all assignments so students can get ahead.
- Not really a big fan of online so I can not answer. I perfer
face to face for most classes.
- More clarification of expectations and class
assignments.
- Built in deadline reminders, better delivery of instructional
videos or other materials.
- This course was extremely well designed.
- quicker 'turn around' for grades
- Make standard organization of tabs/sections in course
den with standard names for each section, e.g. 'Assignments.' Have
someone make sure instructor has content organized with proper dates
before class begins.
- Correct/adjust the items discussed in item #25.
- IT needs to publish a good guide to WinSCP/UWG server that can be accessed online. Professors should not be responsible
for distributing this information to students as IT may make changes
without anyone else's knowledge.
- I have no suggestions at this time.
- On campus classes are often not necessary. Wimba
should be utilized.
- I would like to have completely on-line courses with
no mandatory face to face meetings.
- More video instruction/examples.
- Make sure that the platforms that the outdated IT at
the University uses are up to date with what is in the market place of
the consumer i e the student.
- That all professors have a certain amount of time to
respond to student needs via email.
- I like when assignments are on the calender but not all assignments are on there. Some must be manually added.
- I would like to have NO face to face meetings
required.
- Teachers should grade work faster.
- I am weary about wanting the whole class online. I like that we meet face to face
once. If no face to face then
there needs to be more online Wimba sessions.
- On-line courses for media students should be modeled
the same way, each time.
- Less on-campus meetings. This was not an issue for this class,
but it sometimes is in other online courses.
- move maintenance to midnight on Fridays. I like to
get all my work done before the weekend.
- A special parking pass or mailing a parking pass to
my home address-not towing cars without notice late at night.
- Give teachers a guide for responding to student
questions of 2-3 days; for giving grades 4-5 days.
- try to move away from traditional power point
projects and veer towards exporting all proects
in a video file format...even if it is a power point with a soundtrack
it can be exported to movie files that transition the slides and align
the thought process in a natural fashion. downloading a power point and having
to click through slides that used little or no thought to create
disconnect the viewer from the content....
- Make sure the professor checks his/her email on a
regular basis. I emailed several times in this course and received no
answer.
- They are great. Like meeting once at beginning and
once at end of course so get to know fellow students.
- Bring more courses online
- Not to make us complete this survey for each on-line
course. This is redundant.
- Step by step directions provided at the initial face
to face meeting rather than 'hope you can keep up' verbal
directions. Utilizing the
projector to demoonstrate the verbal
directions would have been helpful.
- personally i like the first
face to face meeting. it helps me get started.
- More rapid communication from instructors
- More tutorials on some of the tools. More examples of
technology projects.
- Fewer discussion postings!
- Utilizing CourseDen for all calendars and assignment
organization.
- Include a little more interaction between classmates
or a place for us to chat in moodle
- Video chats for participation grades.
- Possibly an assignment creating a web to distinguish
similar and different characteristics of theories. The online components and delivery are
well designed.
- no suggestions, this is a great course
- Video chats for participation grades.
- I wish that I could feel more connected with
instructor and with other students.
- If we are completely online students, exempt us from
this survey each semester.
- Open all modules at beginning of course so students
can work ahead.
- Limit the number of assignments to allow time to
complete quality work and to reflect on the learning that took place.
- Not so much posting to each others
thoughts.
- more than one day to do an exam. It removes a lot of the pressure of
having one day to do it. Plus if
something goes wrong with your computer or something unexpected happens,
- more study guides to help with what is actually going
to be on the test.
- This particular professor shouldn't teach online
courses.
- make sure your teacher knows what he is doing
- No group work for online classes.
- teach other instructors how to teach an online class!
- Make sure assignments and tests are listed on the
calendar so they will remind students of due dates
- Make things easier to understand
- Time stamp errors with Web CT if I turn in an
assignment and it won't go through or I my browser shuts down while I'm
taking a crucial test.
- More time on assignments and shorter reading
assignments.
- Thought this course was great. No suggestions.
- Keep up with the syllabus
- In general, since it is online, be specific.
- Make things as easy as possible when it comes too
communicating the assignments and when they are due.
- not using so much music sites
- Step by step instructions are useful when there are
new things students had never done before.
- live sessions should be extra credit or just there
instead of required, and the getting to know course-den because alot of people already know courseden
so they do not need that
- I thoroughly enjoyed this type of learning in
that work full-time and I am a
parent.
- Rebuild with bigger and plainer buttons for the GUI
- Have an FNP program online
- One email would be nice as obbosed
to having a course den e-mail and a banweb
e-mail.
- Make classes completely on-line.
- Less online assignents due
to many of us having a full time job as well.
- I have been told there is a function to allow
multiple students to log on, look at a file together and edit it, but I
can't find that function. More
education for both students and instuctors is
needed.
- no opinion. wont take an
online course if I can help it. prefer the give and take of classroom
and socratic discussion.
- More education for both staff and students on how to
use the blackboard and where to put and find things.
- Although it can't be forced, perhaps have a training
session early in the semester when the class meets face-to-face on how
to properly use Wimba
- Allow more download space for downloads and sending
videos.
- Make improvements to CourseDen.
- Make the entire course either completely online, or
completely face to face because it got to confusing doing half online
and half face to face.
- Make them 100% online, no 50-50.
- Maybe if the teachers could be very specific about
what is expected and have the class home page easy to follow by the
assignments that are due and where the students can find the items
needed to complete the assignments.
- It should be explained that courses are online,
especially if a students thinks they are
signed up for a regular class. It is extremely hard to keep up with what
is due for the class.
- A clearer stated syllabus, on what the student needs
to do.
- I like them half online becuase still like to meet once a week if I have
questions or anything. I like to still see an actual person.
- They are very helpful for people who having a busy scheldule.
- Email reminders for when assignments are due
- Maybe have more help for online learning such as
discussion groups and chat.
- The site should be more browser friendly. It tends to
work more with Internet Explorer than with Firefox.
- Professor communicate with students frequently and participate
in online discussions (which for the most part lended
nothing to the learning curve of the course)
- 1.Face to face meetings, 2.Very organized syllabus with a
professor who checks in daily for any problems and questions 3. Timely grading of assignments
- For this particular class just have the powerpoints but don't voice-narrate them. Takes too
long to sit and listen.
- None really the course was clear
- Have step by step instructions because it will make
it easier for the students and teachers.
- Make sure the professor is computer literate!
- Get it organized before students register for it!
- Make sure to not do any group projects. Everyone has
different schedules and it is difficult to make sure that everyone is
doing their work.
- no suggestions all
was good
- To keep up the good work and explain everything
clearly.
- being able to talk to the professor face to face.
- more times to take the tests & use the books
- That there be no certain time to finish things.
- Just that your work would save if this was to happen
so you dont have to start all over
- No suggestions, just keep up the great work! It was a
great course!
- Instructors that know how to better use a computer.
- Let there be more than just quizes.
- instructors need to be a little more alert to emails
or forms of contact
- 1. Communication between the instructor and student
is helpful 2. Organized material
is needed - this class was highly organized and I felt comfortable and
confident with the expectations and assignments.
- Assignments being due by 11:59 pm
- Make sure the directions are clear and everyone knows
how to access the information on-line.
- There should be more time spent on evaluation of asssignments.
- ensure that teacher receives confirmation from
students via email to ensure that they are on track with the
program. Student gets email
from teacher giving general instructions. Student replies to
teacher. Teacher marks them off
as being on board. Any student
not replying to email is contacted early to ensure that they get the
required INITIAL information.
- Less clutter on Course Den. Try to make instructions clear, yet to
the point. No need to post 3 documents for instructions for a
project. Try to make Course Den
user-friendly for students and not overwhelming. Also, some assignments were 'hidden'
in course content. All
assignments need to be clearly defined and not placed where students
might miss them.
- assign good teachers for them
- Not to allow her to teach an online class
- On-line courses are fine as long as instructors
chosen to teach them participate in clear communication, stay on
schedule with the syllabus, and are task-oriented (i.e. grade and post
grades in a reasonable amount of time).
- The instructor needs to be prepared prior to the
start of the course. And if challenges occur during the semester and
instruction, then the instructor must make accomodations
for the students. That is, the instructor can't post things late and
expect the students to just deal with it. The instructor must make extra effort
to respond to student emails and concerns. This is our only
correspondence. When the prof fails to respond
to student correspondence, it leaves the student feeling ignored,
frustrated, and uncared for.
Clearly, these are not positive and sufficient messages. Luckily, my other experiences with on-line
courses are much more positive than this one negative experience. This
course was not a good representation of on-line courses or UWG.
- the instructor should be more organize with
assignments and change things up once in a while. it was a bit mundane
after a few weeks
- Better instructions, and for UWG CHEAPER PRICES.
- I would prefer to purchase a book rather than have
numerous online articles. Also, the testing method was extremly difficult because it was unexpected.
- Conduct it just like this one!
- Nothing. Great input and Learning experience
- not so many assignments, tests, quizzes
- Give more clear and precise directions.
- I really enjoy online classes. I am a fan of
technology, so I believe I receive the same education through podcasted
lectures, articles, videos, etc.
- Make certain that the requirements of the course are
displayed in CourseDen in a timely manner and are accurate. That would cut down on repeated
contact through email with the professor.
- Nothing, Class was great!
- Better organization of assignments and built in
reminders of deadlines. Visual presentations and live conferencing will
be helpful.
- Maybe have one more class room meeting set aside for
teams to meet. It is so easy to
postpone via online meetings because the commitment of one's time is not
there.
- I would suggest that students are giving more up date on their ungraded assignments. Students are
giving an outline of what will be covered on on-line test.
- Using a WIMBA format for apart
of the class is a way to involve all students and the professor in a
discussion.
- I would suggest the teacher give more examples of
what she wants in an assignment. Students should be allowed to resummit assignments. More feedback need to be given
on what a student need to do to complete an assignment.
- Make sure the professor wants to teach the course
- Sometimes when I tried to access Galeileo
(sp) in the UWG library I would get cut off. I'd have to exit and go
back in under the main UWG website rather then
from my course access.
- Work out the glitches with accessing Galielo (sp). I had trouble getting to it from my
course screen.
