Question 15:  What did you dislike about the online portion of this course?

  • Excellent
  • disks did not always work
  • n/a
  • Class online can be a little boring.
  • The online discussions.
  • Not having face to face contact on a regular basis with other students. It makes you feel a bit isolated.
  • The online chats - they can be disorganized and hard to follow at times.
  • Although the professor does provide feedback, I thought he could have more involved.  The chats were helpful for this.
  • Not knowing what to study for the final exam.
  • Nothing
  • the actual interaction with other classmates
  • The online chats were particularly hard to do this semester with the assignments that were also due on the same nights.
  • posting everyday
  • It was time consuming, with constantly logging on during the day to check posts.
  • WebCT is running too slow. It is very frustrating waiting for pages to load or when refreshing. Not sure what was wrong never got e-mail back from tech support.
  • Nothing.
  • Lack of face-to-face contact with other students hinders networking and communication somewhat
  • Nothing. I liked it.
  • This is not a WEBCT problem, but it is just the fact that this program is said to be for those individuals that are not teachers; however, most of the classes that are offered during the summer are during the day, geared for current teachers.  I need night-time classes, but most of the ones that are being offered this summer are only offered during summer.
  • Nothing.
  • making myself set a schedule to finish the work
  • Nothing.
  • if I had a question it was sometimes difficult to get an answer
  • Nothing.
  • Nothing
  • Some of the answers for the workbook were difficult to find and understand.
  • If I needed answers to a problem, I had to wait to see my instructor
  • nothing
  • repetitiveness of some of the workbook questions
  • same as above
  • I like for my instructors to know who I am and if I have any question I like to explain my question face to face so that if there were any other question that I had it could be answered easily.
  • Nothing.
  • Without being in class - I missed a deadline because I read the syllabus wrong & I finished early went out of town and realized too late that my assignment was due while I was out of town.
  • That you didn't always have a teacher right there to explain things.
  • nothing
  • Nothing
  • n/a
  • N/A
  • The hours I had to spend sitting in front of my computer.
  • extensive, much to do with little time
  • The homework and test submissions systems are linearly based (must answer questions in order or they are wrong) and have no tolerance for spelling errors
  • The red booklet had inadequate instruction and it was frustrating to work through the exercises and not really know what kind of answer was required.
  • If you had questions you would have to either e-mail the teacher and wait or come to class
  • if you don't stay on top of things they will back up
  • It was sometime hard to communicate because everyone doesn't check their e-mail and stuff when you want them to and if you have a question that you need an answer to right away, you have to wait for the response or call the person and they may not even answer the phone then.
  • that the communication from all group members was not as evident as it would be in a face to face meeting
  • Nothing, I think everything was perfect
  • I feel like there were people in my group that got away with things because we did not have to meet in person, and my group thought that we needed to meet in person when this was an on-line class.
  • N/A
  • Instructions sometimes are not very clear
  • The grading system is a little hard to understand, and when having to work in groups that is a little hard to get everyone to come together.
  • N/A
  • N/A
  • WebCT is often slow.  A much better product should be available.
  • Nothing!
  • Nothing
  • The talking points were not at your own pace, so if you forget to check it your time will be up.
  • Self motivation is difficult
  • It's very impersonal to have discussions through this message board. The layout for the message board isn't the right layout for class discussions. See other online communities for better layouts.
  • n/a
  • I just felt as if I didn't learn enough, even though I studied it all the time!
  • the formatting issues with WebCT
  • I did not dislike anything.
  • nothing
  • nothing
  • Nothing
  • Using a format that is lost once copy and paste is completed
  • We were required to use HTML for postings and I still do not know how to use it properly. It does not check for grammar or punctuation like Word. If I wrote in Word and pasted into WebCT, my formatting was deleted.  A MAJOR problem.
  • I liked everything.
  • I felt that the computer department needs to give an introduction to Web CT. The professor expected APA style perfect using this tool without being to do it as an attachment.
  • I am more of a visual person. I like to be in class at least the first or second time to get what is expected from the professor.
  • I got confused a lot about what we were supposed to do, but that is not the fault of WebCT.
  • Too much work, "No show, do more"
  • It is not personal. Also, knowing when things are due and being able to hear the questions of others is more difficult.
  • The inability to discuss matters face to face.
  • The instructor was not very specific about assignments and where to post things. It was confusing for many people in the class.
  • none

  • chatting with other classmates on line was not very useful to me

  • Did not receive timely feedback concerning grades
  • Lack of interaction. The chat was OK, but not as beneficial for me as face to face conversations
  • confusing assignments, too much work, supervision assignment should have been set up for us since summer classes hard to arrange
  • Seemed to be more work than what I would have done in the classroom.
  • When in chat, or composing a response in bulletin board or private mail, system times out too often and you are kicked out.  Unless you had copied your text, you were simply out of luck.
  • I like the on-line environment.
  • Nothing
  • Syllabus not clear in relation to WebCT assignments...have had this problem in every WEBCT class I've taken.
  • To0 much busy work and not enough online discussions
  • Sometimes the material was not posted when I could easily access it.  Occasionally, items appeared at a place that I would not expect them to be.  In addition, I would be timed out rather quickly when I was in the middle of a statement for an assignment.
  • The added assignments that were added last minute.
  • I missed the classroom interaction and face-to-face instructor feedback.
  • N/A
  • I can't get immediate responses to questions I have related to an on-line assignment.
  • Horizon Live didn't work well for me
  • using the internet/email for coursework
  • I did not particularly enjoy the Impatica presentations or the online chat.

  • missing out on face to face interaction
  • I like more contact with my teachers
  • Sometimes, I would not be clear on something or some topic.
  • no interaction with professors
  • The professor did not always email us back.
  • none
  • That the instructors did not give a lot of help in how to post things and use some of the features they require you to use.
  • Questions weren't always answered. I do note that the professor had an extremely high number of students participating in online courses, so he probably received lots of email (feedback).
  • Lack of feedback
  • Not having the teacher in class to ask questions
  • I did not feel that I got as much out of the course by just taking the online quizzes.
  • No teacher instruction
  • This course was too difficult to be completely online.  We should have met and had class discussions.
  • I wasn't able to get with a group discussion--my fault
  • with in depth courses, having a visual is helpful such as a instructor using objects to explain the concept
  • This course needed more instruction than this professor gave online.
  • No teacher accessibility.  No teaching whatsoever.  I learn much better when I am taught.
  • I would have liked more interaction from the professor
  • I had no dislikes.
  • nothing
  • I feel that you do miss some information since there are not the classes to discuss the issues.
  • I had some questions that I felt I needed to have answered face to face
  • nothing

  • Driving to campus from my house
  • N/A
  • I have often had trouble printing documents from WebCT, although I didn't need to do that much in this particular class.

  • Time limitations...could not open things earlier than allowed.
  • nothing
  • I have not dislikes
  • Not having an instructor's input during a lecture.
  • nothing
  • I missed the face to face interaction.

  • I had no one around me who was experienced enough to help me.
  • The teacher did always answer my emails in a timely manner.
  • Nothing
  • Some of the directions were confusing in the end because we were expected to remember things we only went over once.
  • Nothing, the help desk and teacher helped with problem.
  • That some of the assignments were with software not provided by the college and costs over $200.00 dollars so those assignments had to be done in the UWG labs and someone was always on the computer that my webpage and web quest were saved on, so I made many useless trips to the UWG campus.
  • Nothing
  • The requirements were unreasonable! To design a Web Quest is something that I will NEVER use or do again.
  • This class required so much of my time on line that it was almost like being in class.
  • Sometimes it's nice to be able to show something to someone in person and have a discussion about it.
  • I didn't know enough about WebCT before I started the class.
  • I did have trouble at first with trying to navigate and figure out the web ct.
  • I wasn't completely comfortable with using Web CT at first but orientation definitely helped.
  • It can sometimes be difficult to keep up with posting and e-mail updates.  I just had to make sure that I checked both at least twice per day.
  • having to explain things time and time again to those I worked with on how to do things
  • The workload was heavy.
  • Not being able to meet with the members of my group in person

  • too much group work to be online
  • format of the assignment was confusing
  • The organization of the class.
  • Having to wait for a response to questions, and having to manipulate through the site to locate information. Work load seemed heavier than usual for an online summer course.
  • class was not well prepared
  • The email attachments opened a lot of windows.  It took too much time to open attachments.
  • Hard to grasp and learn concepts of the programs without an instructor present.
  • The fact that it was online allowed for assignments to be due at any time, days that wouldn't normally have a class scheduled. I had a hard time working and completing the numerous assignments. Since it was online there was more work.
  • Communication with group takes more organization
  • Lack of consistent feedback from professor and group project members.
  • Some of the work was tedious and took a lot of time.
  • The course material was less organized than I like. I had a hard time figuring out what was due and when.
  • Sometimes when you have questions, you have to wait a while for a response.

  • I disliked not being able to get face to face instruction when I didn't understand something.
  • You don't get to know your classmates very well.
  • Sometimes I feel like I need more instruction on certain activities or concepts being taught.
  • Miss the face to face with professors and classmates that I enjoy seeing and talking to.
  • The stupid surveys we kept having to take.  How many evaluations does a student have to fill out for one class?  WebCT is a farce when it comes to online technology.

  • Nothing
  • More assignments are required since there is not much class time.

  • Having to go to face to face classes, 3 times during the course of the quarter and spending 2.5 hours in the car per class.
  • turning in work as one continuous document
  • sometimes you had to wait for answers from fellow classmates or professors
  • nothing
  • The stupid surveys we kept having to take.  How many evaluations does a student have to fill out for one class?  WebCT is a farce when it comes to online technology.
  • Nothing that I can think of.
  • can't think of anything

  • Not being able to meet people in class
  • nothing
  • I have no real dislikes.
  • Nothing
  • misunderstandings that can occur because of the small amount of fact to face meetings

  • Nothing
  • No dislikes
  • Nothing.

  • Nothing.
  • nothing
  • Nothing
  • The classes, I think, are more time consuming than regular classes.  I understand that we have to makeup for time not in the classroom, but the assignments are more time consuming.  It is difficult to take more than one class with the amount of work.  This is just a certification class and I have done more than I did in my Master's level work.
  • Nothing
  • Not seeing people face to face.
  • Nothing, except the instructor did not organize it very well or really use anything except the discussion boards.

  • Technology problems with my computer caused a few problems.
  • Having to rely on others to complete assignments.

  • The chat requirements.
  • NOTHING!!  I love online classes!!
  • Having to wait for a response.
  • Difficulty actually communicating with instructor and fellow students real-time in the chat room.
  • The professor did NOT communicate with the class on a regular basis.  Grades were never posted; therefore students had no feedback as to how they were doing in the class, and the proof. Did not seem to know how to use WebCT. we had to show her how to use it the first night of class.  Made this class very difficult to follow.

  • Some links were active but didn't provide information.  Example:  statistics about how class performed on test.
  • Not receiving notes from the professor
  • The down time for maintenance
  • Being required to be on campus four times during the semester. I live 2 1/2 hours away. If I didn't have summers free (I am a teacher) I would not have been able to commute

  • The chats are important & essential to collaboration.  The chat box is limiting in this area.
  • Nothing
  • Nothing
  • It was difficult from some of my group members to participate in the chats and that was frustrating.
  • I was not able to always get in touch with the instructor if I had a question.
  • I feel I lost valuable face to face instructional time. I do not believe on-line courses are appropriate for College of Educ. Students need professors to model and demonstrate, which cannot be done on the internet.

  • Lack of immediate response.
  • not getting to know some of the classmates as well
  • Nothing
  • Nothing

  • Not hearing teacher discussion.
  • There were so many mini-assignments.

  • There were too many assignments to be able to thoroughly read the text.
  • There is nothing that I did not like about the online portion, except when there were problems with the internet.

  • felt more assignments should be online

  • I thought the on-line articles required reading were really long and just too much- especially to print out, cause I don't like to read off of the computer
  • The real time chat.  It wasn't used, so there is no need for it.
  • The speed at which you can get on. If I am going to have the convenience of at home learning; I would like to be able to access it whenever. If there are too many trying to get on the computer slows.
  • I feel that in-class discussion and interaction is invaluable when learning and I felt as though the on-line portion took away from that experience.
  • There was nothing I disliked about the online portion of the course.
  • N/A
  • N/A
  • Sometimes the server would be down so I would not have access to the internet.
  • Sometimes, I do like the classroom experience and participation more.
