STATE UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA DISTANCE &
DISTRIBUTED EDUCATION CENTER
Upcoming
DDE Training
Group
Workshops
Several group
workshops are scheduled each term for faculty on a variety of topics.
These sessions are developed and delivered by DDEC staff. The DDEC
also encourages experienced distance faculty to take part in giving
these presentations (let us know if you'd like to be a presenter).
Most sessions are held in the Distance Learning Lab in the College
of Education. UWG faculty or students may receive group or individual
training and assistance on using or maximizing use of WebCT for on-line
courses. Sessions are conducted by distance learning staff and are
held in the DDE / Honors Computer Lab in the Honors House or other
labs on campus. These workshops are offered for all levels of WebCT
expertise. Click here
to access a more complete listing & schedule of upcoming group
workshops.
Custom
Workshops
If you're department
needs specialized training for WebCT or distance teaching, DDEC staff
can provide this service with just a few days notice. Contact the
DE Center (distance@westga.edu)
for more information.
One-on-One
Training
One-on-one assistance
and training for online instructors, particularly in the use of WebCT,
is available by appointment. These sessions are held in the DDEC Lab
in the Honors House. Contact the DE Center (distance@westga.edu)
to register.
Dr.
D Housecalls
The DDEC has begun
offering "housecalls" to faculty who need assistance with
distance learning. Stacey Rowland & Christy Talley will be available
to visit faculty in their offices on Monday and Wednesday mornings
by appointment. Visits will be limited to 30-minutes. Support will
be limited to providing assistance with WebCT course tools, demos
of technologies and software (such as HorizonLive, Impatica, etc),
basic course evaluation, and improvement. Faculty who need immediate
assistance should still contact the distance learning helpline. Those
who need in-depth training should attend weekly workshops (http://distance.westga.edu/workshops.html)
or seek one-on-one training in the DDEC lab at the Honors House. To
schedule a housecall, call the DDEC at (678-839-6248) or e-mail distance@westga.edu.
Please indicate whether you want assistance with WebCT course tools,
technology demos, or an evaluation of your course.
Final
Steps: Preparing Yourself for Distance Learning
After completing
appropriate training, all faculty are encouraged to work with and
observe an experienced faculty member for at least one semester before
teaching a distance learning course. The distance learning office
also has a library of videotapes and books that you can use to further
prepare yourself for distance instruction. Contact the DE Center
(distance@westga.edu) for
more information.
