Course Plugins Instructions Page
Please
read carefully!
Follow the links below for information
on downloading and installing these plug-ins which may be used
in some of our WebCT courses at UWG... if you do not know which
plug-ins you have, take this browser
test.
If you
already know how to download and install plugins, you may click here
to download some of the latest versions of common browser
plugins. If you are not experienced, read and follow the
instructions below.
- In order
to view all the documents in some online courses, you may need
several plugins (your professor should notify you of plugins
needed for your course). All of the university labs have
the Adobe Reader plugin and the Powerpoint Viewer plugin, however
at home or your office you may need to download and install these
plugins before you can do all the necessary work for this course.
For your convenience, GSU has put the latest versions of 5 or
6 commonly used plugins in one directory on the GSU server.
As a University System of Georgia WebCT partner, GSU is sharing
access to these resources with us at UWG. Downloading all the
necessary plugins to your machine's hard drive first will save
you time and frustration. All these plugins are free, so
you may download and install the plugins on your home computer.
- To begin
downloading the executable files, merely click on the link
for the plugins at the bottom of this page. Then
click the link for the particular plugin that you need.
WARNING: some
plugins are not available for Macintosh machines.
- You will
be prompted to save the ".exe" file to some folder
on your hard drive (if you're in a computer lab, ask before doing
this). See illustration below.
Step 1: You are prompted to Save the file. |
Step 2: Select the C: directory |
Step 3: If you choose, you may also select
a specific folder on the C: drive. |
 |
- Once
you have downloaded the plugin executable file, it is recommended
that you exit all window programs and close your browser before
installing a plugin -- to save time download all plugin files
before installing any of them.
- After
downloading, use the "Run" option on the Windows 95/98
Task bar (the one with the Windows logo). Browse to wherever
you saved the ".exe" file and double click it.
In most plugins, the installation takes over and is very fast.
- Once
installation is complete you will either be prompted to restart
your computer (or not depending on the plugin). HINT: if you
are installing more than one plugin, do not restart your computer
until you have installed all the necessary plugins. Downloading
and installing each plugin should take 5 minutes or less, depending
on your expertise with computers.
- If you
have questions, ask for help in the computer lab. If you
are not in one of the labs, the following resources are available for assistance, but cannot
guarantee that the support staff will be able to answer all questions.
