Journal: American Speech

Journal: Applied Linguistics
Topics: Research in first and second language acquisition, discourse analysis, language teaching methodology, English for Specific Purposes, etc.  Stresses the relationship between theory and practice. Also contains book reviews.
Research: Both qualitative and quantitative.

Journal: Cognitive Linguistics
Topics: A forum for linguistic research of all kinds on the interaction between language and cognition.
The structural characteristics of natural language categorization; The functional principles of linguistic organization;
The conceptual inter-face between syntax and semantics; The relationship between language and thought, including matters of universality and language specificity; The experiential background of language in use, including the cultural background, the discourse context, and the psychological environment of linguistic performance; Book reviews.

Journal: ELT Journal (English Language Teaching Journal)
Topics: The journal is a forum for exchange of information related to how English is taught and leaned around the world. Articles focus on the practical experience of teachers in the field for new methods, techniques, materials, testing, and approaches to teacher training.  Submitted articles can also focus on aspects of language (grammar, vocabulary, etc.) as long as there is no dependence on specialized linguistic knowledge.
Research: Most research to be found in the journal is somewhat informal, most often consisting of qualitative surveys with limited numbers of subjects.  Some articles refer to other research and comment on it or describe limited experiments with the teacher’s own students.  The journal requests that any experiments require no more than a basic understanding of statistics or special terminology so there is little, if any, quantitative research.

Journal: Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development Articles indexed by: LLBA, MLA, Sociological Abstracts, etc.
Description: An average issue contains 6 major articles, book reviews, responses to articles, and a list of works in progress. Submission
guidelines request that articles be limited to 7,000 words, reviews and responses to 500 words.

Journal: Language Arts
Topics: Wide range of themes related to language arts learning and teaching, such as gender, spelling, group work, teacher research, poetry, and literacy development.

Of Interest: Published by National Council of Teachers of English
Intended audience: Elementary school teachers in language arts subjects

Journal: Language Leaning
Topics:  Teaching English Grammar (pronouns, articles, and so forth), comparative study in the structures of foreign languages with English, teaching theories, issues around second language acquisition and bilingualism, study of Inter-languages
Research: Both quantitative and qualitative and a combination of these approaches are employed. Within the continuum of the experiment to the introspection, various methods are used depending on the topic.
