Q2. How do I get help with my eCore course in GeorgiaVIEW?

If you have questions about your course's content, you'll want to ask your instructor for help. Once you are able to login to your course in GeorgiaVIEW, you can contact your instructor using GeorgiaVIEW's Mail tool. The mail is private and you can choose to address it to the instructor only so your message will only be seen by you and the instructor.

You could also make your question public knowledge on the discussion board. There's probably another student in your course with the same question and maybe someone else already knows the answer. There's nothing to be afraid of... wouldn't you just raise your hand and ask the question if you were in a traditional face-to-face course?

If you do not get an appropriate/timely response from your instructor, please email your eCore advisor:

Julili Fowler (Students A-L)
jfowler@westga.edu
770-254-7435

Dawn Senfeld (Students M-Z)
dsenfeld@westga.edu
678-839-5489

Be SURE to include your full name, your student ID (917) number, and the exact course and section that you are referring to.

Any issues concerning technical problems or info on how to use the GeorgiaVIEW tools, should be referred to the University System of Georgia's Online Support Center:

Q5. What are the upcoming deadlines - registration, the date classes begin, the date classes end, and the deadline to withdraw?

Q6. How do I drop or withdraw from an eCore course?

During eCore drop/add (see calendar dates: http://ecore.usg.edu/courses/calendar.php) you can drop and add eCore courses using the Georgia on My Line registration system: http://ecore.usg.edu/reg/uwg.php

After drop/add is over, you cannot drop an eCore course. If you decide to withdraw, you will receive a "W" grade on your transcripts and you will not be refunded any amount of the tuition (unless you withdraw from the entire semester). In order to withdraw from an eCore course, you would need to submit the online withdrawal form:

http://ecore.usg.edu/students/withdraw/uwg_policy.php

See the Registrar's refund policy: http://www.westga.edu/registrar/index_8692.php

If you have questions regarding a refund, contact the BURSAR's office at 678-839-4737.

The deadline to withdraw from the semester is the midpoint of the eCore semester. Click here to find the upcoming deadlines - registration dates, dates classes begin, dates classes end, and the semester's midpoint: http://ecore.usg.edu (Withdrawal deadline is the midpoint of the semester).

Except for cases approved by the Academic Dean of eCore, a withdrawal after the mid-semester withdrawal deadline will result in a "WF" (Withdrew Failing).

If you feel you may qualify for a hardship withdrawal or a military withdrawal, contact the Registrar at 678-839-6438.

Q8. I am considering taking an eCore class. What are they like? Is eCore easier?

The eCore coursework will be the same coursework as a face-to-face class. Students who are successful in eCore courses typically are disciplined at their studies and utilize time management skills. Also, students who make a commitment to log in daily for their coursework will be successful in their eCore studies.

If the online learning environment will be new to the student, this resource can provide more information: http://www.alt.usg.edu/sort/

All eCore coursework will be in an online electronic classroom. The instructor facilitates discussion, offers feedback, and grades assignments/papers/tests.

Students do not have to logon at a specific time on a specific day, but the student needs to meet deadlines.

Students are required to take at least one and no more than two proctored exams, typically the midterm and final exams. The instructor will determine which exams are to be in a proctored environment. There are testing centers already identified where students cane make their proctored exam apopintments. Typically the student can test at a testing center convenient to their location.

Note - The CHEM classes require someface-to-face lab meetings.

See the eCore Exams and Testing webpages for more proctored testing information: http://ecore.usg.edu/exams/

eCore courses DO NOT follow the same start dates or other deadlines as regular UWG courses.

eCore dates and deadlines - registration dates, dates classes being and end, Withdrawal deadlines - are found at this webpage: http://ecore.usg.edu/courses/calendar.php

UWG dates and deadlines are published in The Scoop: http://www.westga.edu/registrar/index_8701.php

Another difference may be the cost of tuition for an eCore class. See this FAQ: http://www.westga.edu/~ecore/tuition.php

Q10. I need to schedule an eCore proctored exam. How do I do this?

Every eCore class requires the students to take at least one proctored exam. Therefore, you will have to arrange to take this test at a physical location where someone will observe and guarantee the security of the exam.

See this website for instructions: http://ecore.usg.edu/exams/
