"Knowing God has plans for me to be a counselor for kids who have
sustained brain injuries as I did, I wanted to keep the academic aspect
of my life in motion while I worked to get the best of the physical
disability."
Danielle Vincent had graduated from high school in 2005 and began her
college career at the University of West Georgia that fall. Danielle
states that at this point in her life she "had tired of being known as
the 'good girl'," and began to live what she called "a life of drinking,
partying, and arrogance."
Then tragically, on February 21, 2006, Danielle was in a car accident in
which she suffered a brain injury that had left her disabled, a
shortcoming which she is still slowly working to overcome. Throughout
her recovery, Danielle has attended a day rehabilitation program; it was
here that Danielle recognized she had found her calling. Danielle came
to the realization that she wanted to become a counselor for children
who had experienced similar injuries and help them to reach their full
potential.
Danielle's mother has been a major driving force in Danielle's recovery,
supporting her throughout the entire ordeal. Her mother had helped her
to discover that online classes were a viable option in continuing her
education, despite her disability. Danielle has already completed four
online classes and is currently enrolled in two additional eCore
classes. Danielle states that she will continue to take eCore courses
and acclimate herself so that she may attend on-site classes at some
point in the future. Thanks to eCore, Danielle is well on her way to
obtaining her goal of becoming a counselor and has the
ability to focus simultaneously on her physical recovery.
