Dr. Stacy Boyd (English; sboyd@westga.edu) or Dr. Stephanie Wright (History; swright@westga.edu), to declare the Africana Studies Minor
or for a list of approved courses.
The Africana Studies minor is a multidisciplinary program that combines
the study, research, interpretation, and the dissemination of knowledge
concerning the African presence in Africa, the Americas, and other parts
of the world from the birth of human civilization to the present. This
program of study introduces students to theoretical perspectives and empirical
studies of Africa and the African Diaspora. Undergraduate work in Africana
Studies prepares students for employment opportunities in a variety of
professional careers or for graduate study in the humanities and social
sciences. Students are also equipped for careers in education, research
institutions, corporations, multicultural institutions, community outreach,
human resources management, social services, and public policy. Students
in business and the professions (law, medicine, etc.) particularly enhance
their ability to deal with a culturally diverse clientele.
