Completing the FAFSA:

  • Read all instructions.
  • Provide only the information that is requested.
  • Use your legal name- not nicknames - and your correct Social Security Number.
  • "You" and "your" refer to the student. Sections that are yellow refer to you, the student. Purple sections refer to your parents.
  • If your parents are divorced, you must use the information for the parent you lived with most in the last 12 months. If that parent is remarried, you must also include the stepparent's income. Be sure to provide the information requested about your parents in questions #56 through #89.
  • In Step 6, #97, make sure you include #001601 on your list of school codes. Don't forget to sign and date your FAFSA. Also, if you were required to provide parental infromation, a parent is also required to sign the FAFSA.
  • If you fill out the FAFSA electronically, don't forget to
    • a) sign using you PIN (personal identification number) or,
    • b) print the signature page and mail it to the listed address.
  • Allow 2-4 weeks for your FAFSA to be processed. If after 4 weeks you have not received a Student Aid Report (SAR) via email from the Processor, contact them at 1-800-433-3243.
  • Make a copy of your completed FAFSA for your records.
