The 2008-2009 West Georgia General Scholarship Application for returning students is now available. The DEADLINE to submit the application is March 1, 2008.

The University of West Georgia offers a variety of academic, performing arts and athletic scholarships. The General Scholarship Brochure lists the general scholarships available at West Georgia. To apply for any of the West Georgia General Scholarships click on the link below to print out an application. Only one application is needed to apply for all general scholarships. The application should be completed and mailed to the Financial Aid Office. Student applicants must be accepted for admission by the March 1st deadline or currently enrolled to be considered for a scholarship. Designated Scholarships are also available at UWG . Designated Scholarships are those scholarships specified for students in a certain major.  You must contact the department of your major to apply for these awards. The following departments list their scholarship information online:

Performing Arts Scholarships are awarded in the fields of music, art, drama, and debate.  You are selected on a competitive basis by individual departments on campus.  Please contact the appropriate department if you are interested in a performing arts scholarship.

Scholarships available for 2008 - 2009 entering Freshmen:

Eligible incoming 2008 freshmen students will have the opportunity to become a recipient of the new scholarship fund, the Foundation Scholarships, which include more than $50,000 in academic scholarships. Further, qualifying students with superior grades and test scores may qualify for our highly competitive Presidential Scholarships. In addition, students will compete for scholarships in music, theatre and art during scholarship day.

Presidential Scholarships are offered by the University to incoming freshmen with exceptional academic ability.  All entering freshmen are considered for this scholarship as they apply for admission.  To receive the Presidential Scholarship, you must have a 3.5 high school GPA and an SAT score of 1250 with a verbal score of 610.  This scholarship is renewed annually provided that you continue to participate in the program.  Additional aid received from federal and/or private sources or the HOPE Scholarship will not affect eligibility for this scholarship.

HOPE Scholarship - The State of Georgia provides the HOPE Scholarship for students who graduated from a Georgia high school in 1993 or later with a 3.0 GPA in an academic track or a 3.2 in a vocational track. If you do not qualify as a high school graduate, you can become eligible if you are a Georgia resident and have a 3.0 GPA after 30, 60 or 90 attempted hours of university coursework. You must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain eligible for HOPE. Your GPA is checked at the end of each spring term and each 30 semester hours you ATTEMPT. If you fall below the 3.0 at the first checkpoint, you may regain HOPE at the 30 hour checkpoint if your GPA is a cumulative 3.0. Additionally, if you loose HOPE at 30 attempted hours, then you may regain it at 60 attempted hours with a 3.0 GPA. The last checkpoint to regain the HOPE scholarship is at 90 attempted hours. HOPE will cover a maximum of 127 hours (attempted hours for HOPE include credit courses, withdrawals, and developmental studies). You must also meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements to remain eligible. The scholarship is applied toward tuition and fees (tuition and some fees are eligible) and includes a maximum book allowance of $150/semester. The HOPE Teacher Scholarship Program provides forgivable loans to graduate students seeking advanced education degrees in critical fields of study. The applications are available online at
