What is this program all about?

In this four-week program students study Spanish language and civilization at the Instituto Mexicano de Español y Cultura in Cuernavaca. Known as "The City of Eternal Spring," Cuernavaca has a tropical climate and a variety of abundant vegetation. It is the capital of the State of Morelos, and it is located 76 Km. (50 miles) south of Mexico City. Its convenient location near many points of historical and cultural interest, make Cuernavaca an excellent place to study Spanish.
The Instituto Mexicano de Español y Cultura is staffed with experienced instructors who will help you learn and/or sharpen your skills in Spanish in an immersion setting. Learning Spanish in Cuernavaca is an enriching cultural experience.
In addition to offering quality language training, this program is integrated with excursions and recreational activities in Mexico City and its environs. Additional, optional excursions to other areas in Mexico will be available.

What will I learn? What about class credits?

Students enrolled in this program will receive 6 semester hours of credit for Intermediate or Advanced Spanish Language Training.
Advanced students should be able to select courses such as Composition, Conversation, Latin American Culture and Civilization, Introduction to Latin American Writers, Advanced Language Skills, and Spanish for Business.
Graduate Students can refine their Spanish language skills and take directed study courses, according to their needs.
All students must see their academic advisors before enrolling in this program.

The dates of the program are from May 07-June 06, 2006.

What are some of the places we may visit?

Besides touring Mexico City and Cuernavaca, some of the planned excursions include: archeological sites in Teotihuacan, a city built between 100 BC and 300 AD;Taxco, a colonial-style mining town noted for its production of silver (optional); Las Estacas, which is a natural swimming resort with clear, cool water surrounded by tropical vegetation (optional); Acapulco (optional) and the Peninsula of Yucatán. An all inclusive excursion to Cancún is planned.

Where will I live?

In Cuernavaca, you will stay with a family. Living with a Mexican family is a wonderful experience to complement the Spanish Immersion Program. Families have been carefully selected and offer a warm and safe environment to our students. They all have years of experience in providing hospitality to foreign guests.

How can I be eligible?

You must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 (3.0 for graduate students). Students must submit a copy of their transcripts showing that they are in good standing. This program is open to students of other institutions, including out-of-state colleges and universities.

How much does it cost?

$3,660.00 to be paid by April 1, 2006 to the University of West Georgia. Finacial aid and scholarship support may be available from your home campus financial aid office.

What extras will I have to pay for?

Optional excursions, entertainment, personal purchases, excess baggage if applicable, and laundry.
Out-of-state students are required to pay an additional $250 for tuition.

When are my application and deposit due?

Your application deadline is March 1, 2006 (or on a space available basis) together with your $300 deposit, with the balance due April 1, 2006. Space is limited and early applictions receive priority.
