  Muriel Cormican received her B.A. in French and German literature from the National University of Ireland, Galway, her M.A. in German literature and culture from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and her Ph.D. in German literature from Indiana University, Bloomington. Her research interests can be broken into two primary areas: feminist and gender theory and its application to 20th century German Literature and film; film theory and German film, in particular the representation of and memorialization of the German past (Holocaust and the GDR). Her work on these topics has been published in, among other places, The Women in German Yearbook, German Studies Review, Seminar: A Journal of Germanic Studies and The German Quarterly. She is the recipient of the Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German’s 2004 Duden Award for excellence in teaching and its 2005 Leader of the Year Award for furthering education in German in the state of Georgia.
