Jewell Miles Burson Language Awards for German
Generous funding has been provide to the German Program in memory of
Jewell Miles Burson for internships and Summer programs overseas.
After an initial investment, most internships pay for themselves.
Two $500 travel grants are available to help defray initial expenses.
Fellowship moneys totaling $4000 are available for Summer programs overseas.
This $4000 may be divided into two awards depending on need and ability.
Students are also encouraged to apply for a Foundation Student Travel Award.
Internships in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria through
International
Cooperative Education
This program places students in a variety of jobs in German speaking countries for about ten weeks in the Summer. A student is already eligible after two semesters of college German. Naturally students with more advanced language skills can be placed in more demanding jobs. Typically, students need between $1500 and $2000 for fees and initial living expenses. By the end of the ten-week period, however, students have earned enough to pay these costs, their living expenses, and have a bit left over. For more information, contact John Blair (jblair@westga.edu, 770-830-2211) and/or visit the web site for International Cooperative Education. A $500 travel grant is often available to offset costs, and students are also encouraged to apply for a Foundation Student Travel Award.
