AIPG donates $500 to fund student travel to SEGSA

 

The American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) has donated $500 to the UWG Geosciences Club, an AIPG student chapter.  The money is to be used for student travel to the Southeastern Geological Society of America meeting to be held in Wilmington, NC from March 23-25th.  The Geosciences Department has a record number of attendees planning to go to SEGSA – 9 faculty and 19 students!  Of those 19 students, 12 are listed as author or co-author on 9 different research projects presented there.

UWG Geologist sets metro Atlanta straight

With U.S. southerners wondering why it is snowing here and not in Vancouver, BC, where the Olympic skiiers will be hoping for a bit more white stuff on the slopes, UWG Professor of Geology, Dave Bush, has urged Atlanta area residents, "Don't confuse weather with climate."

UWG Team at the EPA Headquarter

A team of researchers from the University of West Georgia Geoscience’s Department was selected to spend the summer 2011 working with the Heat Island Reduction Program at the EPA in Washington, DC.  This team consists of Dr. Shea Rose, Michael Edwards, a recent alumnus, and Chris Tripp, an undergraduate physical geography major.

Geo Joes Valiant in Defeat

Defeat has rarely looked so good.  Nevertheless, the 2010 intramural campaign sputtered to a start for the Geo Joes Soccer Club, who succumbed 3-0 on Sunday, October 24, to the Vikings.  A rigorous pre-season was evidently insufficient to gel the squad of formidable individual talent assembled by the Joes player/manager Joshua Poole. [See match report after the jump.]

Faculty Stimulates GA Economy

Dr. Seong and Dr. Rose in the UWG Geosciences Department receive $492,000 from the US Geological Survey to boost economy through aerial LiDAR survey over the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The survey project will build very accurate elevation databases for the Charlton and Ware Counties. The datasets will eventually be provided to the public through The National Map of the US Geological Survey. Many undergraduate and graduate students will be involved in LiDAR data collection and processing.
 

UWG geographers attend SEDAAG
