Geography Field Trip to Atlanta

On Saturday, April 11, Andy Walter's Atlanta's Geographies class visited the city they have been studying this spring.  The students spent half a day examining firsthand various parts of Atlanta's urban landscape.

The tour included Decatur Street, Georgia State University, the viaduct system built over the railroad "gulch", the Fairlie Poplar district, Underground Atlanta, Five Points, Centennial Park, America's Mart, Peachtree Center, Little Five Points, the Candler Park neighborhood, and portions of the MARTA rail system.  Dr. Katherine Hankins, an assistant professor of Geography at Georgia State University, accompanied the class to provide insights on the key urban issues reflected in and shaping these various elements of Atlanta's central area.
