The University
of West Georgia is accredited by
the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools [SACS] (1866 Southern Lane,
Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone
number 404-679-4501) to award bachelor's, master's, education specialist's
degrees, and an education doctorate degree. In addition, most degree
programs offered by the university have received other accreditation as
well. All graduate degree programs in teacher education are accredited by
the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Department of Counseling &
Educational Psychology has received accreditation from the Council for
Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Master of Business
Administration and the Master of Professional Accounting degree programs
are accredited by the AACSB International - The Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB
International). In addition, the MPACC has received separate
accreditation from the AACSB International, making it one of only three
colleges/universities in the state of Georgia to hold this
accreditation. The Master of Public Administration program is accredited by
the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and the MA program in Psychology
is accredited by the Council for Humanistic & Transpersonal
Psychologies (CHTP) [formerly known as
CDPP: The Council for Diversified Psychology Programs]. The Music
Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and the Art Department has been accredited by
the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department
of Nursing's masters program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education (CCNE).
The Department of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology’s
masters degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the American
Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
