Application forms may be obtained from and should be returned to the Graduate School Office, Cobb Hall, University of West Georgia, 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118-4160. If you plan to pursue graduate work at the University of West Georgia, you should submit the following items at least 20 days prior to the beginning of the semester you plan to enroll: 

(NOTE: Counseling & Educational Psychology and Psychology graduate degree programs have established earlier deadlines for admission for each semester.)

  1. A completed application form.

Online Application (A text application can also be downloaded and printed) 

  1. A non-refundable $20.00 application fee. Effective July 1, 2007, the application fee will increase to $30.00.
  2. One official transcript from each college or university attended. If you hold a Master's degree, you need only submit one official transcript from each college where graduate course work was attempted. 
  3. A satisfactory certificate of immunization if you are a new University of West Georgia graduate student. 
  4. Three letters of recommendation - Letters of Recommendation may be downloaded and printed. Applicants for programs in Educational Leadership (Administration & Supervision) will need to download and print three copies of the departmental letter of recommendation form.
  5. If pursuing the Master of Education (M.Ed.) or Specialists in Education (Ed.S.) degree, a photocopy of your highest teaching certificate. 
  6. An acceptable admissions test score appropriate to your major: Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Professional Accounting (MPACC) applicants.
  7. International Students will also need to submit a satisfactory TOEFL score.

  9. Once you have applied, you will be able to check on the status of your application using the Application Status Check and your immunization using Immunization Status Check. Please wait at least one week before checking on the status of your application or your immunization records. 


The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for all Master of Arts & Sciences (including the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Science in Rural & Small Town Planning), Master of Music (Music Education and Music Performance), Master of Public Administration, Master of Education (all areas), Specialist in Education (all areas) graduate degree programs, and the Doctorate in Education - School Improvement and the Doctor of Psychology in Society & Consciousness:  Individual, Organizational, & Community Transformation.

The National Teacher Examination-NTE (scores prior to July 1, 1982 only), or the Miller Analogies Test-MAT (scores prior to June 1996 only). Out-of-state scores for the MAT taken from October 1990 - August 1991 are unacceptable for all MED and Ed.S. degree programs. The Graduate School will accept new MAT scores for tests taken after October 1, 2004. For more information, please see our “Graduate Admissions” web page. Scores from the PRAXIS Series Tests (PRAXIS) or the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) may not be used for admission to the Graduate School. However, an acceptable PRAXIS I or GACE Basic Skills Test score is required for admissions into initial certification programs.
