First Year Common Reading
By participating in the common reading program, students gain a beneficial sense of professionalism, as well as establish a mutual experience with other new students. This will help them to develop a sense of community with their peers and their environment, as well as to introduce them to a part of the academic life that they are beginning at UWG.
The specific objectives of the common reading program at the University of West Georgia are:
• To encourage discussion regarding the role of diversity, leadership, professional behavior, and social perceptions on the university campus
• To create a framework for students to understand their experiences as first-time college students
• To create an intellectual community both inside and outside the classroom
• To strengthen reading, writing, and critical thinking skills
