Graduate Research Assistantships
History Department, University of West Georgia
A variety of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) are available to full-time graduate students in the History M.A. program. Assistantships offer valuable learning opportunities for students to learn skills that will prepare them for future careers, in teaching as well as public history. These positions also provide work experiences to list on a resume.
Graduate Research Assistantships offer a tuition waiver (available to both in-state and out-of-state applicants) and a stipend in exchange for working at an assigned project. Assistantships are offered on a semester basis. Student work responsibilities, work hours, and schedules vary based on the assignment.
The History Department offers graduate research assistantships for students to assist professors with scholarly research and classroom teaching.
The Georgia Political Heritage Project offers one graduate research assistantship each semester to assist with the video- and audio-tape documentation of Georgia's political leaders. Students will help with transcribing and processing interview materials and researching and conducting interviews.
The Center for Public History offers two graduate assistantships each semester to graduate student enrolled pursuing a career in public history. Students will assist with developing and implementing various Center research projects and public programs, process archival materials in the Center, and staff the Center.
The Annie Bell Weaver Special Collections in the Ingram Library offers up to two graduate research assistantships in archival training each semester. Interns will process archival collections and undertake special archives projects.
