South African History; African Rural Political Economy;

Disease, Health, and Empire; Zulu Ethnicity.

 

Dr. MacKinnon has studied and taught history in Canada, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. He currently teaches courses on world history, pre-colonial Africa, and colonial capitalism in Africa. At present, he is studying elderly Africans and the myths of rural retirement in South Africa.
