Archives and Research Collections

The Center for Public History creates and maintains an archive for all of its research and fieldwork activities. All resarch materials collected in conjunction with Center for Public History projects are archived according to professional standards and are available for public research during scheduled hours and by appointment. The Center is actively collecting historical documents and material culture related to the West Georgia region.

Our current archival collections include:

Folklife Collection: Regional Architecture, Regional Folklore, and Southern Baking Traditions

Banning Mill Collection: Papers and documents from the Banning cotton mill and other local textile factories. Banning Mill Finding Aid and Banning boxes Inventory List

University History Collections: University of West Georgia Alumni Collection and University Oral History Collection

Changing Times Collection: The Changing Times Collection includes research and fieldwork materials related to our community history project, oral histories, traveling exhibit, public programs, and items associated with the play: "Changing Times."

Family Papers: Edward Crawford Collection, Annie Witt Parker Collection, Yuvonne Pate Collection

Regional Music Collection: historic recordings, oral histories, and photographs

Carroll County Oral History Collection: over 700 interviews, with contemporary and historical photographs, all accessible through our data base.
