Gold Mining Heritage Park Proposal for the
City of Villa Rica

Center for Public History, University of West Georgia

In the fall semester of 1999, graduate students in the Introduction to Public History class prepared a proposal for the development of a Gold Mining Heritage Park for the City of Villa Rica. The City has recently acquired this property, which reportedly is the site of the oldest gold mining activity in the Villa Rica area.

The class developed a 70-page proposal, entitled "Villa Rica Mining Heritage Park: the Dream of Gold" and presented it to the City Council in December of 1999. The proposal included a brief discussion of the site's history and folklore as well as recommendations for site development, education and interpretation, research and collections, funding and marketing, and staffing.
