Dr. de Nie teaches courses on world history, Britain, Ireland, and Europe in the nineteenth century. He has written a number of articles on the British press and Ireland for American and British journals. His first book, The Eternal Paddy: Irish Identity and the British Press, 1798-1882, was awarded the American Conference for Irish Studies Donnelly Prize. Dr. de Nie has several research projects underway, including a volume of contemporary biography of Irish nationalist leader Charles Stewart Parnell and a comparative study of British newspaper reporting on India and Ireland in the 1880s.
