Course Objectives:

This course traces American history from its prehistoric roots through the end of the American Civil War.  Each student will acquire a working knowledge of American history with particular attention paid to the subject’s economic, religious, and gendered variations.

 

Grading Scale:

90-100 Pts.  A

80-90   Pts.  B

70-80        Pts.  C

60-70        Pts.  D

0-60     Pts.  F

 

Note:  I only round up grades to the next highest number:

89.5=A

89.4=B

I do not give extra credit assignments.

I do not curve exam or quiz grades

 

Required Text: Tindall and Shi, America, 6th edition.

          *Cumulative: Exams 1-4; Quizzes 1-10.

 

Note: The final exam is cumulative.  Final exam questions will consist of questions from the previous four exams as well as the quizzes.  Also, the final exam will contain 100 multiple choice questions.  The previous four exams will each contain 40 multiple choice questions.

 

Exams contain 25 questions that come straight from your textbook readings and 15 questions that come from lecture material. 

 

Students will need a scantron form and a #2 pencil in order to complete each exam.  Exams will be passed out at the beginning of class.  Students who arrive 15 minutes after exams have begun will not be allowed to take the exam and will receive a 0.  Be on time!

Each quiz will contain 10 multiple choice questions taken from your assigned textbook.  You will need to purchase 10 scantron forms to take these quizzes.  Students will also need a #2 pencil to take the quiz.  I will not provide these materials to students.  Be prepared!  Each quiz will be handed out at the beginning of class.    

Do not be tardy on quiz days!  Once I have taken up the quizzes I will not allow tardy students to take the quiz.  If you are late you will receive a 0 for that day’s quiz.  No excuses!  If you are absent, only students who provide adequate documentation will be allowed to make up a quiz.  Adequate documentation means: if you are sick, bring a doctor’s note; if someone in your family dies, bring a funeral notice; if you have car problems, bring a towing bill or repair bill.  Excuses such as “I could not find a parking space” will not be accepted.
