The University of West Georgia and the Atlanta History Center offer a Graduate Program in Museum Studies. This fifteen-hour program offers advanced, graduate-level training in museum work with hands-on work experience at the Atlanta History Center. The museum seminars are taught jointly by public history faculty at the State University of West Georgia and by professional museum staff at the History Center.
West Georgia graduate students in the M.A. in History program may add the certificate to their degree by completing the certificate requirements as part of their public history curriculum. Other individuals may apply to complete the Museum Studies Certificate program if they have an M.A. in History or a closely-related field. Interested individuals should apply to the Graduate School and note on their applications that they are applying for this certificate program.
The Museum Studies program was recently featured in the February 2005 issue of the American Historical Association's Perspectives.
