UWG General Scholarships
All continuing students are encouraged to apply for West Georgia’s General Scholarships. The award amounts and requirements vary by scholarship and recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee. Please go to the Financial Aid website and apply. (This application will not be available until after January 1, 2010.) The deadline is March 1st each year.

Undergraduate Awards
BARRY M. GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS:
Three hundred renewable, research scholarships of up to $7,500 for outstanding sophomores and juniors in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. Green card holders may also apply. Application deadline is January 29, 2010. www.act.org/goldwater
MORRIS K. UDALL SCHOALRSHIPS:
Scholarships for sophomores and juniors of up to $5,000 for one year; thirty honorable mentions for $350. These scholarships are awarded to students who research or work with the environment. A separate scholarship is awarded to Native American or Alaskan Native students planning careers in health care and public policy. Application deadline is March 2, 2010. www.udall.gov
HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIPS:
Eighty scholarships for juniors who demonstrate an outstanding capacity for public service to include: academics, leadership, and community service. The scholarship covers expenses for the senior year and graduate school up to $30,000. Application deadline is February 2, 2010. www.Truman.gov
PHI KAPPA PHI STUDY ABROAD GRANTS:
Each year there are 38 $1,000 grants for students who will be participating in a Study Abroad program. In order to be eligible students must: have at least 30 hours, but no more than 90 hours; have at least a 3.5 GPA; have at least 2 semesters of college left after completing the study abroad program; participate in a program between May 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010; and be accepted to the program by February 15, 2010. PICKERING FOREIGN AFFAIRS FELLOWSHIP:
Scholarships for juniors and seniors (also covers 1st year of graduate studies). The scholarship covers tuition, room & board, fees, and books. Interested in students studying international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. Recipients must commit to pursue a master’s degree at an institution who participates in the program. Application deadline is February 1, 2010. www.woodrow.org/mellon
Graduate International Awards
RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS:
Thirty-two scholarships for 2 or 3 years of graduate study at Oxford University in any field. The scholarship pays for academic fees plus an allowance to cover round trip airfares and personal expenses. Applicants must be graduates under the age of 24 by the start of their year at Oxford. Four criteria govern selection: scholarship, character, leadership, and physical vigor. Application deadline October 2, 2010.

MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP:
Forty scholarships for 2 or 3 years of graduate study at nay British university of business school. The scholarship pays airfares, tuition, fees, and additional expenses. Applicants must be graduates under the age of 26 by the start of their year in Britain. Scholarships are awarded on academic ability and leadership potential. FULBRIGHT GRANTS:
Eight hundred grants in over 50 countries for 1 year to support a project, to study or conduct research in graduate school or to teach English as a second language. Graduating Seniors are eligible. The grants cover round-trip transportation, tuition, books, and living expenses. Applicants design their own projects in a specific country, and must represent the United States well. To win this, you need an excellent reason to study or conduct research in a particular country. You also need the academic ability and enough language skill to carry out your project. GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS:
Numerous scholarships that cover between 1 and 4 years of graduate study at Cambridge University. It is anticipated that these Scholars will become leaders in helping to address global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning. ROTARY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS:
Three types of Rotary Scholarships are awarded annually: Academic-year, multi-year, and cultural ambassador. The academic scholarships are for any field of study in any country where Rotary clubs are located. The cultural ambassador scholarships are for language acquisition and a cultural experience. www.rotary.org
Graduate National Awards
PHI KAPPA PHI FELLOWAHIPS:
Each year there are sixty $5,000 awards and forty $2,000 for Phi Kappa Phi members who are entering their first year of graduate/professional school. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2010. www.PhiKappaPhi.org
NATIONAL SCINECE FOUNDATION FELLOWHSIPS:
Eight-hundred & fifty fellowships worth $22,200 plus cost of education allowance for up to 3 years of graduate study leading to masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, mathematics, & a wide range of sciences. The fellowship can be taken up at any accredited U.S. or foreign academic institution. Green card holders may also apply. Application deadlines vary by area, please visit website www.fastlan.nsf.gov.
MELLON FELLOWSHIPS:
Eighty-five first-year doctoral students receive tuition, required fees for the 1st year of study, and a stipend of $17,500 to prepare for a career of teaching and scholarship in humanistic disciplines. JACK KENT COOKE SCHOLARSHIPS:
Sixty-five scholarships to seniors and recent graduates planning to attend graduate school for the first time starting this fall. Each award covers a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the graduate degree chosen. The amount and duration of awards vary by student based on the cost of attendance and the length of the graduate program as well as other scholarships or grants received. The maximum available per student per year of study is $50,000 and the maximum length is six years. Application deadline is May 1, 2010. www.jackkentcookefoundation.org
JAVITS FELLOWSHIPS:
Seventy-five renewable fellowships, worth up to $32,300 for up to 4 years of graduate study leading to a doctorate or MFA degree in the humanities, social sciences, and arts. PAUL & DAISY SOROS FELLOWSHIPS FOR NEW AMERICANS:
Thirty scholarships for up to two years of graduate study in any field. Applicants must be either holders of Green Cards, naturalized citizens, or children of two naturalized citizen parents.
