As a new academic year begins, now is the time to begin working on new research projects. Many students have opportunities to work on research through courses and labs that they take. For students that may not have those opportunities inside the classroom, please contact the Honors College on ways to get started!

Upcoming Research Events:

National Collegiate Honors Council Conference (NCHC) 2008

We will have 4 students traveling to San Antonio this October to present their research in Poster Sessions.  The Honors students who were accepted have various majors (Political Science, Marketing, English, Mass Communications, and Global Studies), proving that EVERY UWG Honors student can participate in Research Projects.

Information for the 2009 Conference will be available in January 2009. The deadline for submissions is typically mid-February, so start preparing now!

Georgia Collegiate Honors Council Conference (GCHC) 2009

This year’s state conference will be hosted by Augusta State University and will take place February 20-21, 2009.  This is a great conference for students who have never presented research before.  Students may participate in either 15 minute Oral Presentation sessions or Poster sessions.  Interested students should email a 250 word or less abstract to mhildebr@westga.edu, and please be sure to include contact information.  The deadline to send your abstract is January 31, 2009.

Research Day 2009

This will be the 3rd year for this special event, where each College and many departments get involved and students from all over campus present their research. The “winners” from this day then have the opportunity to participate in Big Night.  More details will be available in mid-January.  

Big Night 2009

West Georgia’s Annual research night is a Big event on campus!  The presenters at this event are selected through the Department/College Competitions on Research Day.

Department Opportunities

Various departments on campus participate in regional and national research conferences and encourage student participation as well. Also, there are many Summer REU programs available each summer, which are great opportunities to work with Faculty and students from other universities and these are obviously great resume builders!  See your department for more information.
