Mission Statement
At the University of West Georgia, Intramurals and Recreational Services are rooted in the belief that every person has the need and right to wholesome recreation that develops physical, mental, and emotional attributes. Intramural sports are organized activities that allow students, faculty, staff, and family of the UWG community to participate in adventure trips, sports, and recreational activities. These programs promote sportsmanship, fellowship, and lasting friendships.
Vision
The manner in which this department serves to reach this university goal is to provide an excellent and varied program of year-round intramural activities for men and women.
Intramurals and Recreational Services promote a variety of team and individual events so every student has the opportunity to participate. Team sports include flag football, basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, softball, and paintball. Tennis, ping pong, billiards, darts, and golf are some of the individual sports offered.
Outdoor programming is structured to offer students adventure and opportunity to challenge themselves. Trips include rappelling, white water rafting, canoeing, backpacking, and camping in wilderness areas. Intramurals and Recreational Services will be expanding its foreign excursions, in addition to a Japan trip, to include trips to the Caribbean and Bahamas areas.
Regardless of the type of activity, every student must sign the ”Waiver of Liability” and an “Assumption of Risk” forms which are available online and in the Intramural Office. For additional information, contact the Coordinator of Intramurals and Recreational Services at 678-839-6617, located in Room 201 of the Campus Center.
