 Searching the Internet for Information

 

  I.  Answer the following questions.  Indicate which search engine you used to find each answer.

  1. What is the name of one of the best Chinese restaurant in Atlanta?
  2. What is the web address of the public school system (or individual school) in your hometown?
     
  3. In what theatre is GREASE currently being performed at in London?  When did GREASE first open at this theatre?
     
  4. You have inherited $1 million and are thinking about using the money to start your own business.  Use the Internet to get information about starting your own business.  Find a useful site which provides information about starting your own business.  List the name of the site and its URL.  List two useful tips for starting a business (listed at the web site).
     

II.  For the following questions, use  Yahoo!

  1.  Using the stock quote site available at Yahoo!, obtain a stock quote (current price).  In selecting your stock, choose a company which has the same first letter as the first letter of your last name. (Hint: Go to "Yahoo Finance" (finance.yahoo.com), then SEARCH for company symbol).
  2. At Yahoo! Finance, find the lowest rate of interest you would have to pay for a 30 year fixed rate mortgage on a home.  Assume you are buying a $100,000 home and borrowing $80,000.  List the interest rate and any "points" associated with the loan.
  3. At Yahoo! Real Estate, find (and list)  the sales prices and the address of a home that was sold within a mile of your home address.
  4. At Yahoo! Health, find information about a particular disease or general health topic.  List the topic you searched.  List one interesting tidbit you learned about the disease/topic.
  5. Using "Maps", print out a map of your neighborhood. Attach a copy of the map to your assignment.
  6. Using "Greetings", send an electronic greeting card to someone you know.  Print out a copy of the greeting card and include it with the answers.
  7. * Under "Yahoo! Travel", answer the following:
    Find the cheapest roundtrip airfare between Atlanta and any city (with an airport).  The city you will be flying to must  start with the same first letter as your first (or last name).  Your departure date from Atlanta is Friday, March 1, 2002 and your return date is Thursday, March 7, 2002.  List where you will be flying to, on what airline,  and the airfare.
  8. Would you save any money on the above flight if you flew out of Birmingham, AL.  If so, how much?
  9. What is the cheapest you would have to pay to obtain a compact rent-a-car in the city you will be traveling to between March 1, 2002 and March 7, 2002?  List the name of the company also.
