Web Page Project

Return to Introduction

As an end of the term project, you will be graded on a completed web page.  This will be due and graded on the last day of class.  This web page should contain specific elements (listed below).  One section of your Web Page will contain a minimum of Ten (10) links to web pages that relate directly to your major or academic interest. Note: With prior approval, the requirement related to your major or academic interest maybe changed to some other interest.

Program Used: You must use Microsoft FrontPage to create your web page; however, other programs may be used to organize your materials used for your web page. Your web page must be posted on the Sun (sun.cc.westga.edu) server at West Georgia.

Web Page Requirements: You must include all of the information listed below. You should make links to each separate page. Your web page should not be one long, continuous page.  Be creative, do not center everything on your introductory or beginning page.

The web page must contain the following:

  • One introductory or beginning page:  One picture (and only ONE) of yourself, your dog or your friends to be put on your main web page (introductory page).  You must have a second picture on a personal Information page that you link to from your web page.
  •   NOTE: when you FTP your files up be sure that your beginning web page is named index.html; if not your page won’t work!

  • At least the following four (or linked pages).
    1. Personal Information Page - you must link this heading to another page tell about yourself and your interests.  May include:

       -  where you can be contacted (e-mail, phone, address, fax, etc.),

       -  resume,
       -  trips you have taken,
       -  wedding you are planning,
       -  hobby you would like to tell about,
       -  clubs or Greek Organization where you are a member and/or
       - any other topic of a personal interest (sports, etc.)

    2. Academic Page

       -   List Your Major - and link it to your major department's webpage
       -   List all courses you are taking during the Spring Semester.
Give course Number and Title (e. g. ECON 1900 - Surfing the Internet for Success
Link to each course number to its web page (if it has one).

    3. Career (Academic) Interests Page

Using a "Numbered List" - list web sites (outside of SUWG) that are related to your Academic Major or Career interests:

       - a minimum of TEN links are required
       - for each link write a sentence describing what the link is about - e. g.,  Political Science (politics):    example - 1. FedWorld - provides links and information on Federal Government Agencies.

    4. Personal Interest Page - This page can be anything of interest to you.  Just remember that it will be reviewed in class.

  • Formatting the Web Page: You must use the following guidelines when formatting your web page.

    1. Background Color/Background Image: You must choose a background color/image that is pleasant to look at. If you use very dark colors for the background, the information will be hard to read.
    2. Font Style and Color: The font style should be readable. Times New Roman and Arial are good choices; although, you may use what you like.  Also, the font color should contrast with the background color so that the information can be easily read.
    3. WordArt (or other Image Generator): You may use WordArt for titles. Make sure that the colors you use contrast with the background. You should not get very fancy with the WordArt because it can be distracting. It is best not to include shadows and other special features of WordArt.
    4. Tables: You must use one table with or without borders.  Remember, tables will aid you in spacing graphics and data on your pages.
    5. Borders: Borders help the reader follow the flow of the text. But, you must remember not to use too many. As with many special features, too much can be distracting.
    6. Graphics: You must have at least four (4) graphics. The graphics must be appropriate and relate to the topic of the web page.
    7. Sounds: Sounds must be appropriate and relate to the web page topic. Remember that too much sound can be distracting. You are not required to have sound on the web page. The computers in the labs are not equipped for sound.
    8. Clipart:  Clipart maybe used for effect.  One animated clipart is required.
    9. Divider/Horizontal Rule: You must use at least one divider/horizontal rule on your web page.
    10. E-Mail Address: Include your e-mail address so the instructor can send comments or suggests about your web page.
    11. Optional components: You may use bookmarks, text highlighting, hover buttons, marquee, any DHTML effect or themes for your web page.  For extra credit you may use frames (with all links opening to a full page).
    12. References: Any information, sounds or graphics that are downloaded from the Internet must be appropriately cited; however, if you are using free materials citing is not necessary. Follow the guidelines for Citing Internet Resources.
    13. Some Do's and Don'ts...

  • Your Web Page must be available for public view on your westga.edu address by class time on the last day of the semester. Your web page will be reviewed IN CLASS.

  • You will receive up to thirty-five points for this project.  Content (following the above instructions), neatness and appearance will count in determining your score.
