Search Procedures Committee Meeting Minutes

Attending: Michael Aldrich (Chair), Carol Goodson (Secretary), Valerie
League, Debbie Novak, Susan Smith.
The meeting was called to order at 9:15a.m., by Chair Michael Aldrich.
Susan distributed minutes of the 11/22/00 meeting and copies of the
current Search Committee procedures for staff.
Michael reviewed charges 2 and 3 to the Committee, which consist of (2)
reviewing & revising (if necessary) procedures for handling staff hiring,
search & promotion, and (3) examining staff positions we currently have
which are not included in the Library's Human Resources Manual (ILL
Supervisor, Circulation Manager, Office Manager).
At the last meeting, the Committee began reviewing current support staff
procedures. We then reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and went
over the steps of the alternative (non-Committee) plan for support staff
hiring.
Most of our procedures are just clarification/amplification of current UWG
policy; therefore, rather than rewriting our policies, might we consider
just referring to applicable UWG policy, instead of including them in our
text? This way, we avoid the need to rewrite our own policies every time
something in UWG policies change.
The Committee then went step-by-step through the current support staff
hiring procedures again, looking for ways to simplify and include
references to UWG policies, rather than include them verbatim in our
policy. A revised version, taking into accounts changes made at this
meeting, will be posted on the web by Michael.
The next meeting is scheduled for 9:00am, Wednesday, December 6th.
