ACCESS SERVICES
The Mission of Library Access Services is to support the research and instructional
needs of the students, faculty and staff of the State University of West Georgia,
by providing easy and effective access to the specific information resources
required, regardless of format or location. Departments in Access Services include
Circulation and Interlibrary Loan.
CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT
The Circulation Department makes available to library patrons all circulating
materials by maintaining these materials in an orderly arrangement and by regulating
the loan and return of these materials. The Department also maintains location
records of materials in the circulating collection, and keeps statistics necessary
for the operation and planning of the Library. Other services, such as maintaining
the reserve collection, searching for missing materials, and overseeing the
use of conference rooms are provided by the Circulation Department.
At the Circulation Desk you can:
- checkout and return books, videos, and other materials;
- checkout Reserves
;
- pickup and return Interlibrary Loan materials;
- pay fines; and,
- check the Lost & Found.
Borrowing Privileges
To borrow materials, a student must present his/her current UWG ID card or other
photo ID (Driver's license preferred).
Undergraduates may borrow books, government documents, and sound recordings
for 28 days. Videos must be returned after 7 days. Periodicals and Reference
materials may not be checked out.
If you have questions concerning checkout privileges, please call the Circulation
Department at 678-839-6502, or visit the Circulation
Department home page.
Reserves
Reserves are those supplemental materials (including print, audio, and video)
which faculty wish to make available on an equitable basis to all of the students
in their classes. These materials are housed at the Circulation Desk where students
may check them out for loan periods designated by the faculty member.
Loan periods for reserve materials vary from 1 hour to 7 days. You must have
a current validated University ID card to check out reserves. Only one reserve
item may be checked out at a time. Reserves are not renewable. Students should
return reserve materials directly to the Circulation Desk to avoid fines. If
reserves are left on study tables, the student will be responsible for all fines
incurred before the reserves are discharged from their record.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
This is a great service and it's FREE! When the library doesn't own the book
or article you need, you can fill out an electronic
request form accessed through the Library
home page and the Interlibrary Loan Department will try to obtain the material
from another Library. For more information, see the Interlibrary
Loan Web page.
