DEVELOPMENT PROFILE FOR
ENGLISH
Purpose of degree programs
To provide
undergraduate students with a basic foundation in literary history as well as
oral and written verbal skills.
Graduate work in English is devoted primarily, though not exclusively,
to preparing students to become teachers and scholars at the secondary and
college level through an intensive program emphasizing reading and critical
reflection upon the depth and range of literary texts written in English. The
aims of the graduate program also include helping students to becoming more
knowledgeable about literary periods and genres, knowing where to locate
scholarly references and resources, and systematically surveying the criticism
on specific subjects.
