Partnership for a Nation of Learners: Community Collaboration Videoconference II
Ingram Library will host a special presentation by Julie Walker, PINES Program Director with
the Georgia Public Library Service beginning at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, January 30th, 2007,
in the newly renovated Special Collections room on the third floor. The event will include
a discussion of the broad range of library resources available to the University of West Georgia
community while focusing on the New Pines/Evergreen system. Light refreshments will follow.
A guest book will be maintained should faculty deem extra credit appropriate.
The PINES/Evergreen system, a new Web-based catalog comprised of a “statewide consortium of more
than 250 public libraries contains book covers, reviews, table of contents, easy-to-use searches
and a wealth of security enhancements designed to protect patrons’ personal information.” Equally
important, Evergreen runs on the Linux operating system and inexpensive commodity hardware as opposed
to a “proprietary system, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in maintenance and licensing
fees.” For a preview of the PINES/Evergreen system, log onto www.gapines.org. )
