The following list of questions is designed to provide you with the
answers to frequently asked questions. If you have another question, you
may be able to submit it electronically to
ASKAL
(Ask a Librarian) or you may need to visit the library.

- Can I page someone in the Library?

If there is an emergency that
necessitates contacting someone in the Library, you should call Public
Safety (770)836-6600.
- Where is the lost and found area in the Library?
-
The Circulation Desk is the central repository for "Lost and Found"
items in the Ingram Library. Items are retained here for one week,
then forwarded to Public Safety.
- Does the Library have tax forms?
-
The Library does not have paper tax forms. The forms
are available electronically from Federal,
Georgia, and other states income tax forms.
- Borrowing (checking out) Materials
- Who can borrow books from the Library?
-
Faculty, staff and students must present their own current validated University photo ID
to borrow library materials. Borrowing privileges may not be
transferred to another borrower.
- What can I do if the book I need is checked out?
-
If a desired item is checked out to another user, a recall can be initiated at the
Circulation Desk. The person in possession of the item that is
recalled will be guaranteed a loan period of 28 days (or less depending on
its item type). Items needed for Reserves may be recalled at any time. When
the recalled item is returned, the requester will be notified. Recalled items
will be held at the Circulation Desk for seven days.
NOTE: Materials are not recalled for Guest Borrowers.
- How do I renew material I have checked out?

Most items can be renewed twice provided no other user has requested it. Renewals may be
made by presenting the items at the Circulation Desk. Renewals will not be granted if:
- the title has been recalled.
- the renewal limit has been exceeded; or
- there is a block on the borrower's record.

- How long can I check out materials?

- Information about Library Computers
- Does the Library have computers that can be used for research?

Yes, the Library has several research computers available in the Reference Area on the main
floor of the Library.
- What types of information can I get on the computers?

The computers include numerous research databases that can be used to
search for information in books, government documents, periodicals (magazine,
newspaper and scholarly journal), and a variety of other information. The
computers also include direct links to several internet search engines.
- Do I have to sign up to use a computer?
-
No, you do not have to sign up to use the Library computers.
- Can I print from the Library computers?
-
Yes, you can print from the Library computers. The cost is 5 cents per page.
- Is there a computer lab in the Library?
-
No, the library does not have a computer lab, but there are several computer labs on campus. For information on computer labs, see Lab

- Does the Library have computers with word processing capabilities for
me to type my term paper?

No, the Library computers are set up for research and do not contain
word processing programs. Various computer labs on campus have word
processing available. For a list of the labs and the software available
in them, go to Lab Information
, and select the lab in which you are interested.
- Copy Machines
- Does the Library have copiers available?
-
Yes, the Library has copiers available for printing from paper originals or microform
originals. The cost is 7 cents per page with a patron/UWG ID and 10 cents per page
if using cash to copy.
- Finding Research Materials
- How do I find books owned by Ingram Library?
-
To find books and other materials, such as government documents and
videos, owned by Ingram Library, you should search the
Library Catalog (GIL).
For information on using the Library catalog, click on "Help" on
the Library Catalog (GIL) homepage.
- How can I find periodical (magazine, newspaper, and scholarly
journal) articles?

You can access periodical databases by clicking on the
Databases and GALILEO
link from the Ingram Library homepage. You may also visit an
academic library and use print periodical indexes to find
periodical articles.
- Does the Library offer any online tutorials about research?

Yes. You can link to

Topics to get step-by-step instructions on the research process. The
University System of Georgia also provides an online tutorial,

- GALILEO
- What is GALILEO?
-
GALILEO is a virtual library developed through an intiative of the
University System of Georgia. GALILEO stands for GeorgiA
LIbrary LEarning Online. Through GALILEO, you have
access to multiple information sources. For more information about

click on About GALILEO.
- Can I access GALILEO from a remote site (home,
apartment, etc.)?

Yes, you can. Some of the databases are
available to the public, but some databases require a password.
- How do I get the GALILEO password?

For information on how to obtain the GALILEO password, go to

Your Account and follow the directions listed there. Keep in mind, you
must be enrolled as a student at UWG to obtain the GALILEO password.
The GALILEO password changes each semester.

- How do I register for a session?

You can register online for sessions. Go to
Library Instruction Sessions
and click on the month in which you are interested.
Note: You will receive an email confirming that are
registered for a session or sessions.
