LIBQUAL SURVEY
Undergraduate, Business
"I feel the library should have a 24hr access level. The first floor would be perfect. They could could lock the upper levels so students could not go up and that way only the 1st level needs to be monitoried. Also letting students use ppt, word and other applications during this time because peak hours are not that high then."
Undergraduate, Other
I really enjoy studying and doing reasearch at the library. Studying at the library helps my to better concentrate on what I am trying to lear. My grades improved my sophomore year in college because I spent a great deal of my time at the library studying.
Undergraduate, Nursing
i would like to be able to check out books or other resources longer
Undergraduate, Business
"I believe that the library should install more computers as well as additional Microsoft software such as MS Publisher, MS Powerpoint and such like. Think about it!!"
Undergraduate, Psychology
I wish the library computers had Word
Undergraduate, Education
"Because I am an education major, I usually use only the tmc"
Undergraduate, Science / Math
bring back the 24 hour study hall!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Graduate, Psychology
I have been satisfied with my experience - especially when I need to order books from other institutes.
Undergraduate, Business
Very helpful staff & very courteous.
Staff, Education
"wonferful, caring, helpful people all w/ a strong work ethic"
Staff, Engineering / Computer Science
I want my prizes!
Staff, Other
They are some of the nicest people to work with
Faculty, Philosophy
We have had to struggle to acquire and retain the most vital research tool available which is the Philosopher's Index. Library is not flexible about how we spend the money we are allocated for books and journals--they won't allow us to shift some of those funds to pay for the Philosopher's Index. This has been a HUGE frustration.
Faculty, Nursing
ILL and document delivery are very difficult--not intuitive and I am often frustrated by the difficulty
Faculty, Psychology
"I have always found the service at Ingram Library to be commendable. Particularly, I value the persistence and diligence of Carol Goodson. Thank you, Carol, for all that you do."
Undergraduate, Political Science
The moving wall causes a real problem for political science majors becausewe need current journal articles.
Faculty, Education
"As a new faculty member last semester, I found the library orientation very helpful and valuable. I am especially interested in continuing access to electronic resources for our students who are unable to come to the library in person."
Faculty, English
Carol Goodson is my guardian angel at Ingram.
Staff, Other
"This is cleary designed for academics. There are only two questions, in my opinion, that apply to staff.I gave comfortable and inviting location a low score because there's no place to park. The low scores in questions 28-35 mean N/A. Every question should have an N/A. I have always had wonderfule service from the Reference Desk staff."
Faculty, Foreign Languages
"Carol Goodson is an effective, collegial, and friendly liaison between the library and the English Department. We couldn't 'do' without her."
Faculty, Education
Well-meaning and friendly staff; sometimes unable to locate a book which computer shows to be on the shelf - never found and no follow up ever came through my university e-mail as promised.
Staff, Business
"Excellent help always available when needed. If ask a question the staff not only tells you where to look, but many times ""takes"" you to where you can find the information. I am an employee of University of West Georgia and an under-grad student, without Ingram's library staff and the library resources it offers, I would never have survived!"
Faculty, Science / Math
The library has gotten better in the past few years. I am however frustrated that I can't sometimes find parking but the library staff has reserved spaces. This was pointed out to me bu other faculty as well.
Faculty, Psychology
Ingram Library has always been a credit to this university and continues to be.
Faculty, English
Carol Goodson is our liasion and thus we are the best served people on the planet.
Faculty, Education
"The library portal to retrieve articles and information is not at all user-friendly. Many of my students who have not been ""cut off"" from their undergraduate institutions continue to access information through that library's webpage (such as GSU, UGA, Auburn). Until I was recently removed from the system, I also used the library page from my former university to seek information."
Faculty, Sociology
The questions about myself are not anonymous! You can easily figure out who I am by the questions asked above. This library needs library workers that can actually help students with research rather than only student workers ill equipped to help other students with research. The library needs more up-to-date books.
Staff, Business
Library and service of high quality
Undergraduate, Psychology
"The longer I've been here at West Georgia I have realized how necessary the library is and how much information I have available to me. Everyone is very intelligent, friendly, and helpful."
Undergraduate, Business
Great Library
Undergraduate, Business
"I really feel that currently those who are in the library each day helping to better service students, faculty, and any other visitors are doing an excellent job!!!"
Graduate, Science / Math
none
Undergraduate, Education
I really enjoy going to Ingram library. It is big and I can get a great deal of work done there. Much of the sources that I need are available to me and I have no complaints. I am sure that all of the services that I need are available or will be made available to me when I ask for them.
Undergraduate, History
"The library is not open enough. It should be open later at night and more on the weekends. Also, many of the books are very outdated. If you are researching a topic, such as science or astronomy, which changes very rapidly, it is difficult to get up-to-date info when you are using a book written in the 50s. It would be more inviting if there was more color and more comfortable seating areas. I understand it is not meant to be comfortable, but more people would be more willing to use the library if it were nicer and more inviting."
Graduate, Performing & Fine Arts
"When I made an Illiad request and checked the status by e-mail, the response was prompt. Staff at the circulation desk are friendly and promptly check out materials. When I had questions regarding other services, they were answered knowledgeably. The library is a rich resource for me; one that I thoroughly enjoy using."
Undergraduate, Business
The janitorial staff shout and are very loud in the library talking to each other when I am trying to study. This happens all the time and drives me nuts!
Undergraduate, Sociology
"Need better provisions for actual study...too noisy downstairs, but also need places for groups to meet. Very frustrated by lask of printed materials now that much is electronic."
Undergraduate, English
"With the sole exception of a single incident, on which occasion I believe the staff member to have been having a bad day, I have always been treated with dignity and respect,"
Undergraduate, Political Science
"Since I've been here the library has been great to me; I have found everything that I have needed. Also, the librarians have been wonderful."
Undergraduate, Sociology
start letting us use word on the computers to check our papers instead on view only please
Undergraduate, Nursing
Great!
Undergraduate, Foreign Languages
"I would have to say that our library is nearly perfect. It has great, easy to use resources, great employees, ready to help, and a great academic, calming atmosphere. I submit that the addition of a coffee stand or coffee shop would complete the academic atmosphere."
Faculty, Science / Math
ILL and GIL Express services are essential and well serviced currently. My only request would be renewal of GIL after due dates. Thank you!
Faculty, Foreign Languages
Good job.
Faculty, Business
The library staff does a good job with limited resources. Additional resources ($$$) are needed.
Faculty, Philosophy
The library needs a substantially increased budget. It should expand and renovate.
Faculty, Science / Math
"People at the library are very friendly and knowledgeable. I think they do a great job. My only problem is with the limited access of journals (online) , for which librarians are not resposible, since it is a budget issue. One thing I would improve for some of them who deal with interlibrary loans is the attitude towards people who request these articles. When they believe we are a student, they greet us with a bad vibe which means that we are not welcome but when they think we are faculty (look old enough I guess), we are greeted with a smile, everything else being equal. The library, unfortunately, is not the only facility on campus where this takes place. It is a pity because we are supposed to work for and with students, not against. The last thing I would improve, if this incombs to the campus library, would be the availability of articles through interlibrary loans, sometimes we are told that these articles can not be located through ILL and I think it hurts our research."
Faculty, Education
excellent so far
Faculty, English
Ms. Goodson is the best liaison I've ever experienced -- this is my fourth academic position in an English department.
Undergraduate, Business
My only problem is the availablity of the computers in the library
Undergraduate, Business
thank you
Faculty, Education
"I have always been pleased with the library services whether it is finding materials there, accessing online research, or bringining my students for in-services. Keep up the good work!"
Faculty, Communications / Journalism
Everyone is very polite and doesn't get easily flustered when they can't locate something.
Graduate, Education
"I love libraries, and having been at another school, this library could use some imrpovements. I'm sure we all know that it's not beautiful, but my main concerns are the small collections and accessibility to more e-resources (which would help alleviate wait times from ILL and help students do better research). Also, the microfilm machine is awful; I had to go to another library to be able to print the whole page of a microfilm we have here after I had asked someone here at the reference desk about how to use it and finding that the machine would not scan the whole page. Plus, one week one of the reel spindles was missing. Information is not being digitized fast enough for us to not continue buying equipment that better reads and scans microfilm."
Undergraduate, Psychology
"The library is a great place to come and read/study. The computers do not have the ability to word process, but this is acceptable due to the limited number of computers available, and the locations of the other computer labs on campus."
Undergraduate, Philosophy
"The library works great overall. I like the way it works. Since I am often busy, I would like to be able to renew books longer than I can, but the time allowed is quite acceptable. Also, books due over the weekend may as well pe pushed back intil the next business day. Other than that, everything runs very smoothly and it is a great place for a variety of resourced."
Undergraduate, Psychology
The library is there to help when you are uncertain about certain matters in your undergrad year. That is one of the greatest aspects of the library.
Undergraduate, Psychology
"In the past (morning hours), sometimes the cleaning staff has been loud when they are having conversations between themselves."
Undergraduate, Psychology
the services are fine. I just hope that sometime in the near future there are more computers to use so that everyone will have a beter chance of completing work in a quiet environment
Undergraduate, Performing & Fine Arts
Fines are too high

Faculty, History
"The library personnel consistently offer outstanding service. I interact with the library staff more than any other group of people outside the history department. Apart from the occasional problem with a new student worker at the circulation desk, the staff has been universally outstanding. The actual library collection is woefully inadequate. The books and journals are scanty, and with the budget for acquisition what it is, each year the library holds a smaller and smaller percentage of what it should hold. Also, the physical plant of the library is unattractive, uncomfortable, and inconducive to study or research. In conclusion, I think the library staff are outstanding. The library budget, however, is pitifully small. Student and faculty learning suffer as a result."
Faculty, Undecided
recent budget cuts in journal subscriptions have negatively affected my research. Projected upcoming cuts in journal subscriptions available via the internet will be extremely detrimental.
Faculty, Education
The library staff provide an excellent resource. The holdings and the electronic access need improvement.
Faculty, Sport Management
"I have extremely high expectations of the library. I was told before accepting a position here that the library was ""great"" and had the finances to support the research I was performing. However, since coming here I have had to pay for my own subscriptions to databases to support my research. In addition, I was informed earlier this semester that Ingram will be discontinuing its subscription to a couple of necessary databases in our discipline. This comes at a time when we have added a research class to our required curriculum."
Faculty, Science / Math
"Access to publications in my areas of research and study are limited. ILL is proficient, however, I often need material faster than it is possible to obtain through ILL"
Faculty, Communications / Journalism
"The Docutek system of placing materials on reserve seems to be overly difficult, confusing, and time-consuming. Faculty do not want to have to learn this system or take tutorials on it. We need to go back to the old system where one simply brings a sheet of paper over to the library with a list of items on it, books and articles and such, and then everything else is done by the librarians. Keep it simple."
Faculty, Sociology
"I realize funds are limited at UWG, and historically, the Library is one of the first places cuts are made. Nonetheless, I think we have an excellent library given the size of our university. It's helped me a great deal over the years."
Undergraduate, Business
What's the reason for not having Office on library computers?
Graduate, Psychology
"Overall, I think the library and its staff is good. I wish that the library owned more books on special topics in Psychology (eating disorders, psychological disorders, etc.). Also, a small coffee/snack shop on the main level would be a nice ammenity."
Library Staff, History
i would prefer to see the library pull together as a team.
Graduate, Science / Math
The library needs to have a subscription to more academic science journals.
Faculty, History
"GIL Express is great, however, it would be more convenient if books could be checked out for longer than one month at a time."
Library Staff, Communications / Journalism
"Customer service with a smile has greatly improved during the past month or so. Need to emphasize importance of team players. Staff need to be remain supportive and considerate of other staff members. Current administration has been very supportive, Library employees work load is unrealistic. Need more staff. Efforts to improve staff morale should continue. Library needs facelift. Coffee shop would create wonderful atmosphere. More general instructional courses need to be offered for students, faculty and staff. I.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Email tips, Internet tips and weekly database classes."
Faculty, History
"Little available in terms of research materials for my field of study (historic magazines, manuscripts, government docs relating to my field)"
Faculty, Other
"Great service, middling collections. Shabby building belies nice people therein. Put some money into renovation and collections because the library is for EVERYONE and it is open to the public as well as students. What a shame it looks so bad and is so hidden down a gated drive."
Faculty, English
i was disappointed that so much money was cut for library journals.
Faculty, Engineering / Computer Science
Good for its size as an academic library. Good services to faculty and increasingly better.
Faculty, Education
N/A
Faculty, Science / Math
"The library staff are fantasitc but are given pathetic resources. I have to go to Georgia Tech or UGA to be able to keep up with my field. If faculty are expected to do research, they must have access to databases and electronic journals in their fields. For me, I need access to Inspec and to AIP journals. Yes, they are expensive, but it is the price that must be paid to keep research alive here. A literature search is the first step in any research program. I do not blame anyone at the library but the individuals that give them meager resources. Don't cut their budget, but increase it. Otherwise, stop demanding the impossible from faculty."
Faculty, Education
Great service and resources!!
Undergraduate, Psychology
The library is perfect for studying and just reading for enjoyability.
Undergraduate, Education
"I have always found the staff, facilities and resources of the UWG library highly satisfactory."
Graduate, History
"Your employees are really terrific--always pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable--they are among your best assets!"
