District Governor's Message

By the time you read this it will be past Labor Day and I am already amazed how quickly time is passing.  I have been your District Governor for over two months now.  It has been a very busy, but rewarding time.  I have been to visit Villa Rica, Buchanan and Tallapoosa, where I enjoyed fun, food, fellowship and friendship.  I have been to Crawford County, Newnan-Coweta, Columbus and Carrollton where I enjoyed all the above, plus had the distinct pleasure of installing new officers.  On Saturday August 23rd I traveled to Carrollton to help celebrate the 75th Anniversary of their Chartering.  What a great party, and what a dynamic club.  While I was in Carrollton we re-visited the Lions Safari Park.  This was a great community project initiated by the Lions of Carrollton and supported by all the Lions of District 18E as well as Lions Club International Foundation, which helped provide funds for this worthwhile project.  I have included a couple pictures in case you have not been there yourself.  Steve and I are going to be traveling to Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada this month for the USA-Canada Lions Leadership Forum.  If you have the opportunity to attend one of the forums, take advantage of the opportunity and go.  This is one of the best learning and training experiences ever.  Steve and I are combining the trip out to the forum with some much- needed R&R.  We will be gone most of the month, but will have my cell phone and will try to access my emails.  We thus will not be making any club visits during the month of September, but hope to make up for lost time in October.  In the meantime, your VDG Scott is meeting with the rest of the MERL team to outline a plan to increase membership within District 18E.  I have outlined for everyone the goals I set forth during my DG training. (It is elsewhere in the newsletter)  The new Global Membership Team will be focusing on how we (all Lions in all Districts) can achieve the goals set forth by their respective DGs.  I truly believe that if we all focus on the message of President Al Brandel, continue to be Everyday Heroes performing Miracles through Service in our local communities, and practice my 4C’s for 18E—Commitment, Communication, Community and Collaboration—we will be able to reach those goals with ease.    Until we see each other again.  Yours in Lionism

DG Marlene
