Grading Rubric for Short Writing Assignments

ENGL 4165, Spring 2012

 

A: Outstanding argument – sophisticated analysis showing independent thought, with nuanced and persuasive illustrations; few, if any, grammar errors.

 

B: Very good argument – insightful analysis with persuasive illustrations; generally good grammar.

 

C: Adequate argument – logical analysis with sufficient illustrations; follows the mechanical conventions of college writing without confusion or distracting patterns of error.

 

D: Inadequate response – may be illogical, confusing, simplistic, or lacking sufficient illustration.

 

F: Unclear; fragmentary; or confused in its understanding of the text.
