Requirements for the Major

     Media Literacy Competency - 12 hours
     Select 2 of the following: 
     COMM 3350: Telecomm and Electronic Media Industries 
     COMM 3313: Public Relations Principles 
     MKTG 3809: Advertising Practices 

      AND
     COMM 4454: Media Law 
     COMM 4484: Mass Media Research 

     Writing Competency - 6 hours
     COMM 3301: Writing/Reporting for Newspapers I 
     COMM 4450: Broadcast Newswriting and Reporting 
     COMM 4451 Copy Writing for TEM 

     Technology Competency - 6 hours 
     COMM 3303: Editing and Makeup for Print Publication 
     COMM 3351: Radio Program Production 
     COMM 3352: Television Production I 
     COMM 4403: Photojournalism 

     Electives- 18-21 hours
     Must be 3000-4000 level COMM courses. May include courses not selected
     above and THEA 3214, 3392, 3394; ABED 3104, 3106, 3160

     Requirements and restrictions specific to the Mass Communications
     Major:

        a. Must have a minimum 2.5 gpa to declare a major in Mass Communications or
            to enroll in any 3000-4000 Mass Communications courses 
        b. Must pass English Composition II before enrolling in COMM courses
            numbered 3000 or above 
        c. Must be proficient in word processing before enrolling in COMM writing
            courses 
        d. A maximum of 3 credit hours of Mass Communications Practicum may count
            toward major requirements 
        e. A maximum of 3 credit hours of COMM 4486 (Internship) may count toward
            major requirements 
        f.  Must have portfolio review during senior year 
        g. Must complete requirements for a minor field 

     Requirements for the Minor

     Minor - 18 hours 
     COMM 1154: Intro to Mass Communications (3) 
     COMM 3301: Writing and Reporting for a Newspaper I (3) 

     Select 1 of the following:

     COMM 3303: Editing and Makeup for Print Publication (3) 
     COMM 3351: Radio Program Production (3) 
     COMM 3352: Television Production I (3) 
     COMM 4403: Photojournalism (3) 

     Electives:

     Must be 9 credit hours of 3000-4000 level COMM courses. May include courses
     not selected above.
