Following completion of the course, the student will
demonstrate:
1. an understanding of the
standard vocabulary and symbols associated with;
2. a better understanding of
the fundamental concepts in probability and statistics, including the
organization of data, numerical descriptive measures, discrete random variables
and their probability distributions, and continuous random variables and the
normal distribution;
3. a better understanding of
the appropriate strategies for teaching mathematics concepts at the P-8 level,
and;
4. a better understanding of
the uses of a variety of manipulatives, technology, and other materials for the
P-8 level.
There will be a midterm exam @ 100 points, a project worth 125 points (we will talk about this later on in the semester), a comprehensive final worth 100 points. The total possible points earnable will be 375. Grades will be assigned on a point scale format:
C = 250-227
D = 226-195
F = 194-0
For each section covered in
class there will be a set of problems provided.
These are not homework problems (thus they will not be graded). These are problems that I recommend that you
do to do your best in the class. If
there are questions about these problems please see the professor during office
hours, before or after class, or on review days.
Attendance is mandatory to do your best in the course. I will attempt to take the roll daily. If you miss more than 2 times you will automatically be dropped from the course and given a grade of WF. Three tardies count as one absence.
If you miss a test you will make that test up on the final exam. No make up exams will be given under ANY conditions.
Cheating or any kind of conduct that disturbs or disrupts the class will not be TOLERATED. If you cheat on an exam or project you will receive a grade of F.
