I wrote my dissertation on the fictional works of Lou Andreas-Salomé, a prolific author whose theoretical arguments and narrative strategies prefigure those of French, German and American feminists in the latter decades of the twentieth century. |

From UFA to X-Filme Creative Pool, German film has remained innovative in terms of story, technique and aesthetics. I am particularly interested in contemporary German directors’ representations of the German past and how these representations participate in the scripting of a new German national narrative. |

German postwar literature is vast and varied, reflecting two cultures and forever engaged in the negotiation of memory and forgetting, politics and aesthetics, and in the regeneration of a tolerable German post-war cultural identity. I have worked intensely on authors such as Christa Wolf, Thomas Brussig and Bernhard Schlink. |
