The following is your detailed syllabus with homework assignments for Kapitel 4 in the text book Kontakte. Unless otherwise indicated, page numbers refer to Kontakte. The homework listed under a given date is the work that you should already have completed before you come to class on that day.

• Written homework from Kontakte should be placed on the instructor’s desk every day before class begins. Most days, it will be handed back at the end of class. On some occasions, the professor will take it with him/her, assess it and count it toward your homework grade.
• Place the completed Workbook on the instructor’s desk at the beginning of the final exam period.

Mittwoch, den 19. November	Read and take notes on 4.3 and do Übung 6 (S. 165). Review 4.1 and 4.2. We will have a quiz (today) on all of the past participle regular forms and any of the irregular forms listed/addressed/in exercises on pages 161-164. Read “Aufräumen” (S. 143-4) and complete exercise C (S. 145). Write in complete sentences but do not copy directly from the text. There will also be a small part of the quiz dedicated to examining the reading.

Mittwoch, den 26. November	Erntedankfest : No class but to keep your German alive, write paragraphs of 50 words each on the following. This is optional and can be handed in for the equivalent of an extra-credit quiz grade on Monday, December 1^st. Only submissions in which every part has been completed and has the minimum number of words will be accepted. No late submissions – absolute keine! a. Ich, meine Freunde und meine Familie. b. Freitag, den 5. Dezember	Review case: what does “nominative case” and “accusative case” mean? Why do you need to know what they are? What do they have to do with the words “subject” and “direct object”? What are the “ein words”? the “der words”? the pronouns? Arbeitsheft: S. 112-113.
