STATE UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA DISTANCE
& DISTRIBUTED EDUCATION CENTER
UWG Distance
Ed --
reaching out
& enhancing the personal experience
UWG began offering courses through
two-way videoconferencing in 1995 and online courses in 1997.
Through distance education, the university reached out to the
students -- at remote campus locations or directly into their
homes. Courses were designed with the needs of the student foremost
in mind - the student whose work, study, or parenting responsibilities
prevented them from traveling to the main campus.
Today UWG has become a leader in distance
education, as a host institution for Georgia's eCore and WebMBA programs.
As many as 30 different distance courses are offered fully via distance
technologies, with 100 more courses and 3 additional full degree programs
requiring only part-time campus attendance. Courses are taught by
expert instructors who emphasize "Educational Excellence in a
Personal Environment", by incorporating online discussions, group
work, and one-on-one assistance, all at a distance.
