Research

My research interest is transition metal-catalyzed environmentally friendly organic reactions. My current research focus is to develop transition metal complexes that catalyze selective oxidation of organic compounds by nitrous oxide (N2O) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). These "green" oxidants would generate only non-toxic byproducts, nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O), respectively, after consumption as oxidants. My research students are synthesizing new tridentate and tetradentate ligands as scaffolds for selected first-row, late transition metal ions to create a N2O- and H2O2-activation site.
