Designed to allow candidates to achieve certification (T-4 level).  Students must hold at least a Bachelor's degree.  Accredited by NCATE & the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GPSC).
    The length of the teaching internship depends on whether or not the candidate is teaching on a provisional license.  If teaching on a provisional license, a two-semester teaching internship is required.  if not teaching, a one semester teaching internship is required.

How to Apply:

Please log onto the Graduate School's Web site found at: http://www.westga.edu/~gradsch/ and submit an application for admission.  An 2.5 overal GPA is required for admission.  You may reach the Graduate School by phone at 678-839-6419.  In addition, you must request official transcripts from institutions that you have attended be sent directly to the Graduate School.

Please fill out a Request for Evaluation of Transcripts for Teacher Education form and send it along with a $25 check & copies of all unofficial (student copy) transcripts to:

Please make check payable to: University of West Georgia.  The program sheet resulting from your transcript evaluation will be mailed to you and it becomes your official program of study sheet for your certification-only program.

Courses labed "TE" in your program sheet requires admission to the Teacher Education Program.  Although you could begin course work without having been admitted into the Teacher Education Program, it is highly recommended that you seek admission as soon as possible.  You must successfully pass the GACE Basic Skills Test, have at least 2.7 overall GPA, and complete the four forms for Application for Admission in to the Teach Education Program.

    If you have not take the GACE Basic Skills Test exam, you must pass the exam for admission into the Teacher Education Program.  The GACE Basic Skills Test is a prerequisite for capstone courses.  (Note: you are exempt form the GACE Basic Skills Test if you qualify for at least one of the followng: minimum of 1000 combined Verbal and Math SAT score; minimum of 1030 combined Verbal and Quantitative GRE score; minimum of 43 combined English and Math ACT score).  Towards the end of your program of study, the GACE Test I (042) and GACE Test II (043) in Business Education must also be passed to receive certification from the Georgia State Dept. of Education.  Information on these tests can be found on-line at:  http://www.gace.nesinc.com/GA_testselection.asp

In addition, you may (if you feel qualified) test out of ABED 3104, ABEd 3106 or ABED 4118, and ABED 3160.  Simply contact the department for arrangements.  A long-range plan for courses that are offered in the department is available on this web site under Courses.  Highlighted courses in green color are offered either partially or totally online.  Upon receipt of letter of admission from the Graduate School or if you have any questions during the process, please call 678-839-6472.  A campus map can be viewed at
