Midterm:  Essay exam. Subject: The Woman in White. Bring your book. You’ll have a choice between two brief critical assertions about the novel. You’ll respond in your short essay EITHER by countering the critic you select critic (in detail, with relevant textual analysis) OR concurring with the critic and working to shore up and EXTEND the assertion—again, with specific references to the text. Your goal will be to demonstrate familiarity with Collins’s novel and with the development of the novel as a genre in the nineteenth century.
