Larry Frazier D.M. Vocal Performance,

Larry Frazier has sung over 150 performances of bass roles with professional opera companies across the United States, including 35 performances of the role of Figaro on tour with the National Opera. He began his career as an apprentice artist with the Santa Fe Opera and has since sung with the New Orleans Opera, Opera Memphis, the Indianapolis Opera, the Mississippi Opera, and the Syracuse Opera. He created the role of The Elder in the Emmy Award-winning production of StarChild, by James Oliverio, which was broadcast state-wide over Georgia Public Television. Most recently, he has appeared as bass soloist in Italy, at Verona and Venice; in New York, at St. Paul’s Chapel; and in Washington, D.C., at the National Cathedral. In addition to his accomplishments as a singer, Dr. Frazier has forged a 37-year career as an artist/teacher in higher education and education outreach. Now in his 20th year at the University of West Georgia, he is Professor of Music and Director of Opera Workshop, which he has built into one of the most active in the state and region. His voice students have achieved success as professional singers and as music administrators and teachers. He has previously taught at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at Texas Tech, Tennessee Tech, Northwestern State, and The University of Mississippi. Immediately before coming to West Georgia, he served as Director of Education/Outreach for Opera Memphis, bringing opera to over 25,000 children in schools throughout the mid-South. He holds the Doctor of Music Degree from Florida State University and Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Louisiana State University, where he served as graduate assistant conductor of the LSU A Capella Choir. He taught choral music at Texas Tech and at Tennessee Tech and has over 25 years of experience as a choral conductor. |
