Mary Erickson, MSN, RN Rank:
Associate Professor
Teaching Philosophy: 1. Preparation of the student for the real world.. I believe that I am able to help students develop knowledge and skills that beginning practitioners must have to function in their chosen profession. I believe my continuing exposure to clinical practice reinforces concepts of context and relevance which are of utmost importance in preparing students for professional practice. 2. Fairness I believe that all students have something to offer to themselves, to each other, and to the profession. I believe that all students should have the right to contribute, to be recognized for their work, and to be given equal opportunities for learning. 3. When I prepare classroom activities, I try to develop activities that will encourage critical thinking. I know that the old ways of rote learning and memorization will no longer suffice in a profession and a world of unknowns. 4. Caring I believe caring involves listening to students, being willing to help students, being open to diverse opinions, and treating people with respect and kindness. Because of our professional responsibilities, caring also involves maintaining standards and protecting clients. Courses taught: Nursing 3135 ( Professional Nursing Practice), Nursing 3245 (Family Health Nursing) and Nursing 2023 (Applied Pharmacology)
