GEORGIA ASSOCIATION OF NURSING STUDENTS (GANS)
NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES' ASSOCIATION (NSNA)
All nursing students at the University of West Georgia are encouraged to participate in the campus chapter of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS). The UWG Chapter of GANS is an organization that meets periodically to promote student interaction and professionalism. It is run by and for the student nurses at the University of West Georgia. The local chapter is open to pre-nursing majors as well as nursing students. Chapter activities include fund raising, service projects and programs of interest.
GANS is affiliated with the National Student Nurses Association
(NSNA), which is the largest independent student health professional organization
in the country and the national organization for nursing students.
Any student in a state approved nursing education program or any RN who
is enrolled in a baccalaureate nursing program is eligible for membership
in NSNA. Membership offers many benefits including scholarships,
loans, reduced malpractice insurance rates, career planning assistance,
a national convention, reduced rates and discounts, as well as opportunities
to meet and network with nursing students from other institutions.
Students from West Georgia usually attend the state and national conventions.
Membership in GANS-NSNA provides an opportunity to serve in leadership
positions at both the state and national levels. Several students
from West Georgia have served at the state level. For further information
regarding membership and dues see a faculty member or UWG nursing student.
